"Azovstal is a metallurgical plant in Mariupol that boasts nearly 90 years of history, with many extremely strong and durable structures being made from steel smelted here: bridges, spaceships, as well as armor for tanks.

In 2022, after russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukrainian territory began, the Azovstal plant became the last defensive fortress of Mariupol.

The enemy almost destroyed 11 square kilometers of the plant territory. But neither threats, constant bombings or siege have managed to break the will of Ukrainians.

In the end, the word “Azovstal'' became a symbol of perseverance, courage, and the indomitable spirit of an entire people.

So, before you are 5 grams of perseverance. These bracelets are not just small ingots of steel, they are a symbol of respect and faith in the defenders of Ukraine. Our warriors themselves are like steel, and even stronger than steel. I am inspired that the last pre-war batch of steel from Azovstal will help the Armed Forces"

Metinvest has developed its own unique coating solution

In a difficult time both for the country as a whole and for the company in particular, the Central GOK of the Metinvest Group improved the coating technology, inventing a unique engineering solution for the coating of pellets.

This became possible due to the initiative of internal specialists, employees of GOK, who were united by a single goal and teamwork.
It was the unity of people around the goal - to achieve results - that enabled Metinvest to develop its own, not borrowed, technological solution, which is worth being proud of.

The early test results give hope that the protection from agglomeration during direct reduction will be higher than that of competitors.
Thanks to the new technology, Metinvest not only remains a stable player on the market, but also provides a positive signal for further development and breakaway from competitors.

Ukraine’s richest man Rinat Akhmetov disputes the legitimacy of being called an oligarch, as he recently surrendered his longstanding media interests, he hasn’t been a member of parliament for many years and his business partner Vadim Novinsky resigned his political mandate as well. What follows is the full text of the written interview that he gave Corriere.

17 July 11:00

Dear Friends,

Metallurgists and miners are celebrating their professional holiday in the coming days. Unfortunately, we cannot make it festive and full of joy. However, we can celebrate the Day of the Metallurgist and Miner with dignity and pride.

Heavy industry has come to the support of Ukraine. From the beginning of the war, Metinvest has opened a front of steel. We have been assisting the armed forces, caring for Ukrainians, supporting the economy and helping employees who have had to move from the worst affected areas to safer regions in Ukraine to rebuild their lives.
Like everyone else, we are scared at times. Yet the fear of losing our cities and our Ukraine is much greater. Therefore, we continue coming to work. We have been working day and night to mine iron ore and produce hot metal. We are doing everything we can to make sure our steel is delivered to our customers and to ensure that Ukraine is provided with the funds it needs to strengthen its economy and bring the day of victory closer.

It is true that we are not operating to our full capacity. But it's a forced pause before a mighty leap. We will surely stand fast and our goals will become even more ambitious. Steel construction and the restoration of our country will require all of our strength. That said, victory first needs to be won.

I would like to thank each of the metallurgists and miners who are bringing Ukraine's victory closer in their workplaces. I also thank our colleagues in the Armed Forces of Ukraine who are defending our country.

We have changed. We have become tough and hardened for the future of our children, our cities, and our country. We have truth and love on our side and these are the most powerful weapons. We will surely win and turn the hedgehogs that helped to defend our native land into bridges that will unite all of Ukraine.

Happy Day of the Metallurgist and Miner!

Glory to Ukraine!

Dear friends,
Metinvest is celebrating its 16th anniversary in the midst of war. Since its foundation, the Group has been working for the development of Ukraine. Now, in the most difficult times, we have not hesitated to direct all resources to help the country. Metinvest has allocated UAH1.5 billion to support Ukraine, and we will continue supporting it until victory.

In liaison with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, we have launched the Saving Lives humanitarian project. Due to the efforts of #Metinvest and partners from all over the world, more than 60,000 people have received food and essential supplies. We also provide regular assistance to medical institutions in our cities by supplying the necessary equipment and medicines.

Despite the challenging conditions, our enterprises continue to operate. After a one-month halt, we have resumed operations in Zaporizhzhia. Our employees in Kamianske, Pokrovsk and Kryvyi Rih are standing strong in the most difficult times. I thank everyone who has contributed to the stability of production for the sake of a peaceful future. I believe that after victory, our enterprises in Avdiivka and #Mariupol will work again. We will restore our plants, and the indestructible fortress of #Azovstal will again produce high-quality steel.

We have been doing everything to strengthen the defence capability of Ukraine. We have launched production of special steel for armoured vests, which are now protecting our soldiers on the front line. Together with those purchased outside Ukraine, the armoured vests supplied by Metinvest number over 100,000. In addition, we have given the military drones, thermal imaging equipment, vehicles and medical supplies. We have also made tens of thousands of anti-tank hedgehogs and roadblocks to fortify cities.

All of this has been possible thanks to our team: specialists who go to work their shifts, volunteers for social projects and employees who defend our country’s independence. Every one of you is a hero worthy of respect and boundless gratitude.

Unfortunately, the war has brought tremendous grief to Ukrainians, including our workers. Please rest assured that we will not leave you in the lurch and will help you to survive the horrors of war. Metinvest has created rehabilitation and reintegration centres so that displaced employees can receive medical and psychological assistance, as well as find new work and accommodation.

The time will come when we will rebuild everything that has been destroyed. Yes, we have a lot of work ahead of us, but we also know what we will be working for: a happy life in peaceful cities of a successful independent country.

HappyBirthday, Metinvest!

Glory To Ukraine!

6 June 15:00

People made of #steel. Full of power and love. Hardened in their homeland, they are strong like a fortress.

We all have ten hands each, 48 hours a day, and one great desire for all.

We might not always realise how united we have been. Tens of thousands of Metinvest employees are united around a common goal: to survive and to defeat the enemy.

Everyone is bringing victory closer in their own way -
by working hard, by defending Ukraine, by caring for those who need it most, or by continuing to support their family and their country.

Each one of us is unique and important in their own place -
whether at the heart of the production process,
in the office or at a remote workplace.
We are where life is at stake,
where things are dangerous,
where care and a smile can bring miracles,
and where our hearts belong.

Metinvest is invincible Mariupol, enduring Avdiivka, hospitable Zaporizhzhia, mighty KryvyiRih, reliable Kamianske, and strong Pokrovsk. Metinvest is also the employees of the foreign companies, who, being thousands of kilometres from Ukraine, help maintain the stability of the Group and collect aid for their colleagues.

Metinvest is steelmakers and miners, process engineers and machine operators, soldiers and defenders, volunteers and activists. Pride in their homeland, and an example to the whole world. Together to victory.

Metinvest Informs of Pirates from the Russian Federation

On 24 February 2022, the Russian military aggression against Ukraine began. Much of the fighting has taken place in Mariupol, which is currently under Russian occupation. On the first day of the war, metallurgical products produced at Metinvest Group’s Azovstal and Ilyich Steel iron and steel plants were in the port of Mariupol. These steel products were to be exported to buyers from various countries, including Spain, Italy, Belgium, Greece, Portugal and Turkey.

At the time of the military invasion, several commercial vessels were in the waters of the port of Mariupol. They had already been loaded with 28,000 tonnes of steel. There is a high risk that the aggressor will use these vessels to steal and smuggle metallurgical products belonging to Metinvest Group. Read more.

The steelmakers and coke-makers of Rinat Akhmetov and Vadym Novynskyi's Kamet Steel, part of Metinvest Group, come to work every day according to the work plan, and the equipment is functioning smoothly. In February, all of the metallurgical shops of Kamet Steel exceeded their production targets for the month. It was possible to ensure the logistics for the shipment of finished products. In March, the work is continuing as usual.

We are making Ukrainian products for the future of the country. We believe in victory!

And Metinvest is helping to provide temporary shelter.  About 6,000 places have been arranged in the cities where the Group has operations.

Bread

I grew up with a lot of respect for bread. My childhood was spent under the Soviet Union, and I met the independence of Ukraine as a teenager. Different worlds, different me, but still there was always "bread is everything's head".

Well, who as a child did not buy fresh, still hot bread and on the way home did not eat the edges? These are real moments of happiness. I loved the "brick" bread. And the bread heel was just enough one the way home from the store))) Over time, the bakery mix, of course, grew, but this very "brick" - it seems to be the main one)...

UKRMETALLURGPROM DEMANDS EXPULSION OF ALL RUSSIAN COMPANIES FROM WORLD STEEL ASSOCIATION

After the two weeks of war, it became clear that Russian occupants are breaking all possible rules and international agreements, demonstrating a terroristic brutality unprecedented since World War II. The Ukrmetallurgprom association, which brings together Ukraine's leading steel and mining companies, as well as research, design and educational institutes, is appealing to the largest and most authoritative industry association, Worldsteel, to expel all Russian companies from the World Steel Association. We consider them accomplices of the terrorists who finance the war. Their metal has become destructive, intended for the massacre of the Ukrainian people.

Mr. Sajjan Jindal Chairman of the Worldsteel Association

Dr. Edwin BASSON Director General of the Worldsteel Association

Dear Mr. Jindal

Dear Dr. Basson

We appeal to you on behalf of all steelmakers and miners of Ukraine. There is a war going on in our country right now, and millions of innocent Ukrainian lives are being broken. By invading Ukraine and threatening other countries with weapons, Russia is threatening the security of the entire world.

After the two weeks of war, it became clear that Russian occupants are breaking all possible rules and international agreements, demonstrating a terroristic brutality unprecedented since World War II. Infrastructure has been destroyed, residential neighborhoods, hospitals and maternity hospitals, schools and kindergartens are being wiped off the face of the earth, old people, children and women are being shot. Right now, hundreds of people are dying in cold basements without food, water, electricity, having no opportunity to leave the encirclement.

The Ukrainian people endure the hardships of war with dignity and honor. Ordinary Ukrainians, the state and business unite to resist the Russian aggression. The Ukrainian steelmaking community is helping the Ukrainian Army with all its might, organizing humanitarian aid, providing the efficiency of enterprises where it’s possible and supporting the economy of the country. Many steelmakers and miners joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the territorial defense to defend our Motherland. Bomb shelters of steelmaking and mining facilities have become a second home for the residents of Mariupol, Avdiivka, Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia and other Ukrainian cities.

Now the whole world is feeling the pain of Ukraine. European businesses are withdrawing from the Russian market; fewer and fewer people and companies want to do business with an unpredictable and aggressive country. Such support is invaluable to us, as it gives us the strength to fight and believe in our victory.

The World Steel Association is the largest and most respected industrial association. Unfortunately, among the members of Worldsteel there are many representatives of the occupants, namely EVRAZ, Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works, METALLOINVEST, NLMK-group, Tube Metallurgical Company (TMK), SEVERSTAL, Russian Steel Association and others.

We consider these Russian companies as accomplices of terrorists, because they finance the war. Their connivance turns the once creative metal into a destructive substance intended for the massacre of the Ukrainian people.

We appeal to you with a request to expel all Russian steelmaking companies from Worldsteel, as they are not worthy to be a part of the global steelmaking community and enjoy the benefits of WSA membership. Your support will be a contribution to our victory and the triumph of justice for the steelmakers and all the people of Ukraine.

Kind regards,
Oleksandr Kalenkov,
President of the Ukrmetallurgprom association

Metinvest Group has prepared shelters and assistance for refugees in safe Ukrainian cities

Rinat Akhmetov and Vadim Novinsky’s Metinvest Group is providing shelters for refugees from the most dangerous spots in Ukraine, especially Mariupol. In the cities where the Group has operations, places are being organised for people who will be evacuated in the near future.

Refugees will be hosted at recreation centres, sanatoriums, healthcare centres and dormitories in Zaporizhia, Kryvyi Rih, Kamianske and Pokrovske. About 5,500 sleeping accommodations will be provided. Metinvest’s volunteers have collected blankets, pillows, linens and other necessities. The Group is buying mattresses. Places have been set up for cooking and eating. The most essential items have been purchased, including drinking water, food and medicine.

Psychologists and doctors will work with internally displaced persons where necessary. Columns with relief consignments and evacuation buses have already been formed in Zaporizhia and are waiting for the opening of a humanitarian corridor to Mariupol.

"We believe that common sense will prevail on our enemy’s side and humanitarian corridors will work," said Yuriy Ryzhenkov, the CEO of Metinvest Group. “People are desperately waiting for help in cities where there has been continuous shelling for more than a week. Today, Mariupol is simply dying without food, water, and all of this happening amid cold weather. We are ready to help. We know how to help, and most importantly, we can help. We hope that this terrible situation will be resolved in the coming hours and we will be able to save people".

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, Metinvest Group and DTEK have united to help Ukrainians affected by the Russian attack on Ukraine. A hub has been set up in Poland to collect aid from around the world and deliver it to Ukraine. The first 80 tonnes of basic necessities are already on the way to the country. When these supplies arrive at the Zaporizhia Humanitarian Coordination Centre, established at Zaporizhstal, volunteers will sort the goods and repackage them for further transportation to Ukrainian cities to help refugees and Ukrainians injured by the violence.

SOUTHERN GOK’S TEAM CAN OVERCOME ANY DIFFICULTIES

Southern Mining and Processing Plant (Southern GOK) is enduring difficult times. Due to the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the enterprise has faced a shortage of fuels and lubricants, problems with the supply of consumables and spare parts, and restrictions on the sale of marketable products.

Despite these unprecedented new challenges, Southern GOK is continuing regular operations, extracting ore and producing iron ore concentrate. The plant is on track with the production plan both in terms of volume and quality, while continuing to implement major investment programmes. The plant has not stopped its main projects for the expansion and modernisation of the production process. Moreover, it is taking responsibility for its impact on the environment and has implemented a comprehensive environmental protection plan for 2022.

Since the first days of the war, Southern GOK has been assisting in the territorial defence of Kryvyi Rih. As of 5 March, the plant has handed over 109 anti-tank obstacles, known as hedgehogs, to the city, and another 63 are ready to be sent. Our volunteers are organising the collection of food, warm clothes and basic necessities for the defenders of Kryvbas. Today, Southern GOK has three priorities. First of all, it is committed to protecting the health and lives of its employees. Then, it is ensuring the continuity of production and the regular payment of salaries.

Amid the war in Ukraine, the authorities, society and business have united in the fight against Russian aggression. In particular, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, Metinvest, DTEK and other SCM companies are helping Ukrainians to survive by providing humanitarian supplies to the affected regions. Rinat Akhmetov, a shareholder in Metinvest Group, spoke about all of this in an interview with the US edition of Forbes.

The attention of the world is riveted on the war in Ukraine. Avdiivka Coke Plant: The Goal Is Survival

As a result of the fighting and the impossible logistical situation, Avdiivka Coke Plant was forced to switch Coke Shops #3 and #4, as well as the second chemical wing (coal preparation and recovery), to conservation mode.

Coke plant No. 1 and Coke battery No. 6 of the second coke plant continue to operate to ensure the production of coke oven gas to heat the furnaces of all the plants. Coke oven gas is also sent to a thermal power plant, where electricity is generated for production purposes. However, due to gas shortages, production was reduced to 6-6.5 megawatts per hour. In addition, despite all of these difficulties, Avdiivka Coke continues to provide heating for the city.

The staff are working to ensure that production continues at the existing shops and are overseeing the conservation of shops that have been forced to switch to downtime. They are working to protect the integrity of the masonry and carrying out the maintenance of the furnace facilities and equipment. Some employees are continuing to work on a daily schedule of 22 to 24 hours. Technical experts are also working in shifts to ensure the preservation of the mothballed equipment. A portion of the administrative staff are working remotely.

The safety of workers is being provided for by seven shelters with a total capacity for 2,500 people. As about 700 factory employees are currently working in shifts, there are enough places for everyone. The warehouses have generators, first aid kits, drinking water and food.

The Group has had problems with the supply of fresh water. Currently, Avdiivka Coke is fed from bio ponds, factory storage tanks and wells. Metinvest Group is doing everything possible to support the Group's employees and salaries and benefits continue to be paid.

10 March 16:00

The first humanitarian aid shipment provided by the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has arrived in Zaporizhia. Volunteers from Rinat Akhmetov and Vadim Novinsky’s Metinvest Group will prepare packages of essential items for Ukrainians impacted by the aggression of the Russian Federation. Food packages will include cereals, pasta, water, canned food, condensed milk, oil, sugar, and instant soups and noodles. The first shipments of food supplies, including pasta, cookies and sugar, have just been delivered. We are waiting for the next lorries to arrive.

Yuriy Ryzhenkov: We are helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine and territorial defence forces and have deployed a humanitarian front

Today, we are focused on the health and lives of our employees and the people who live in the cities where the Group has operations. The second priority is humanitarian aid. The third priority is assistance to the territorial defence forces and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In order to prevent industrial accidents, as soon as hostilities began, we put our enterprises into hot conservation mode. First, we shut down both steel plants in Mariupol, then the same was done in Zaporizhia. When the first missiles hit and the city was bombed, we stopped Zaporizhstal.

At the same time, we still have our Kamet Steel plant in Kamianske, and our mining assets in Kryvyi Rih, with the latter operating at 30-40% of their capacity. Of course, logistics remains the primary constraint and we simply cannot export more.

8 March 10:00

Most of Metinvest Group's employees are based in Mariupol. Bomb shelters have been opened at Iyich Steel and Azovstal for the Group's workers, their families and city residents. At this time, bomb shelters are the safest places in the city for people to stay. Mariupol is already experiencing a humanitarian disaster.

Supplies of food, medicines and water have run out. The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, together with Metinvest Group, is trying to deliver essential goods to Mariupol, but the Russians continue to shell the city and prevent the opening of a humanitarian corridor.

The enemy has deliberately destroyed electrical substations and Mariupol has been without electricity, water and heat for a week now. Natural gas was available until recently. However, the Russian aggressors severed the gas pipeline and have deprived people of the last thing that remained of civilisation, and this has occurred as the outside temperatures have regularly gone below freezing.

Homes and social facilities have been destroyed, retail outlets have been wiped out, pharmacies have been looted. There is no food, no water, no medicines. And all of this is taking place under continuous shelling. By besieging Mariupol, the enemy is committing a real genocide against the Ukrainian people.

Shipment of humanitarian aid organised by Metinvest and DTEK has left Romania for Ukraine

Metinvest Group and DTEK, in cooperation with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and with the support of the Office of the President of Ukraine and local municipalities, have sent the first 60 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Ukraine from Romania. The aid will go primarily to the cities where SCM Group companies are present and where it is most needed at present.

As a result of this delivery, around 12,800 emergency kits designed to last for one week will be assembled for Ukrainians impacted by Russian military aggression. The kits will include porridge, pasta, water, canned food, condensed milk, butter, sugar, soups and instant noodles.

At present, Metinvest Group, DTEK and the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation are doing everything possible to save lives and prevent a humanitarian disaster in Ukraine. In addition to Romania, the first deliveries of humanitarian aid will be organised from Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and the Baltic states.

Metinvest and DTEK are also buying food in Europe for Ukrainians impacted by the war. A hub has been set up in Poland to consolidate aid and send it to Ukraine by rail. Special trains have already been prepared in Ukraine to receive humanitarian aid from the EU countries. All humanitarian aid collected by Metinvest and DTEK will be provided to humanitarian headquarters that have been established in all Ukrainian regions.

Metinvest has also asked its partners, companies and organisations in Ukraine and abroad to send medicines, foodstuffs, clothes, women's and children's hygiene products, and electrical appliances to help Ukrainians.

This initiative does not provide for individual one-off donations, rather it is focused on large-scale humanitarian aid. The company can only accept it in large consignments at present: in the format of cargo, packed on 120x80 cm euro-pallets or in containers with delivery to the terminal.

The following products and basic necessities are keenly needed at the moment:

Cereals of all kinds, pasta, oat flakes, tinned meat, fish and pates, canned meat, canned vegetables, condensed milk and nut pastes, biscuits/galets/nuts/nuts/dried fruit/butters, porridges and instant soups, matches, flour, sunflower oil, sugar, salt, tea, coffee, baby food, baby formula, infant formula, electric kettles, water, disinfectants, disposable dishes, nappies (diapers), sanitary napkins, toothpaste, brushes and toilet paper.

If you know of any companies, enterprises or other organisations in Ukraine and abroad that are ready to provide humanitarian aid in large quantities and join the initiative of Metinvest and DTEK, please let us know about them.

Rinat Akhmetov: "We are helping the Ukrainian army to protect sovereignty, and the Ukrainians – to withstand".

Shareholder of SCM commented on the Russia's invasion of Ukraine for Ukrainska Pravda. The businessman and president of the Shakhtar football club noted that Ukraine has always been a peaceful country.

“Ukraine has never attacked anyone. And today Russia is destroying villages, cities, infrastructure, killing civilians. Russia, of course, is an aggressor country. Putin is a war criminal,” Rinat Akhmetov stressed.

The Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and all SCM businesses have joined forces to help the country.

"We are helping Ukraine, the Ukrainian army to protect the sovereignty of our country and win, and the Ukrainians - to survive and withstand," said businessman Rinat Akhmetov.

Now all business contacts with Russia have been severed and there is no any interest there and cannot be.

Statement by Metinvest Group

Separatist media outlets are again spreading false information about the situation in Mariupol, in particular about Metinvest Group enterprises in the city. According to absolutely untrustworthy sources, the special forces of the self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic were able to seize most of the territory of Ilyich Steel. The Group states that this information is absolutely false, its plants remain under Ukrainian control, and there are no enemy-occupied units at any of its enterprises. Moreover, the Ilyich Steel and Azovstal plants are currently some of the safest places in Mariupol and where local residents seek protection from the Russian Army’s shelling and bombing of the city.

This hoax is yet another attempt by Russian forces to destabilise the situation in Ukraine, and it is clear that it will not be the last such effort. Mariupol is in a difficult situation. Therefore, alongside the shelling, Russian troops are also waging an information war. Metinvest appeals to all journalists to double-check all the information they receive with official sources.

Reliable information can be obtained from the Group's official channels. Here is a link to a special report on the Metinvest Media news portal. It provides a daily update about the situation in Ukraine and at Metinvest Group enterprises.

Metinvest Group will support Ukraine's territorial defence

Metinvest Group will buy military protective equipment, including body armour, helmets and first-aid kits, for Ukraine's territorial defence. The Group has allocated EUR10 million for this purpose. The purchase will be made in several stages.  The entire country now stands united in the fight for Ukraine’s victory in this senseless war. Today we need to support our citizens in the territorial defence units who are protecting our cities, hospitals and our homes. During the first stage of the purchase, Metinvest will acquire 2,800 Polish-made bulletproof vests providing level 3 and level 4 protection and 500 first-aid kits manufactured in Turkey. The second stage will also include the purchase of flak jackets, first-aid kits and protective helmets for members of the territorial defence units. Territorial defence is Ukraine’s pillar and pride. We know that this protective equipment will help protect the health and lives of our defenders.

Avdiivka Coke continues to operate, with a portion of the production facilities in conservation mode

Due to the hostilities and insurmountable logistical issues, Avdiivka Coke has been forced to transition the second, third and fourth coke shops, and the second chemical wing (coal preparation and recovery) into conservation mode.

Currently, some employees continue to work around the clock. Technical staff are working in shifts to ensure the preservation of production equipment. Remaining employees are currently experiencing downtime. Part of the administrative staff is also working remotely.

Metinvest Group does its best to support its employees and continues to pay salaries and benefits.

THE SITUATION AT METINVEST GROUP’S MARIUPOL ENTERPRISES AS OF 3 MARCH

It has been a week since production was halted at all Metinvest Group enterprises in Mariupol. Ilyich Steel, Azovstal, Metinvest-Promservice, and the Mariupol Machining and Repair Plant only have staff on hand to maintain the equipment and ensure there are no accidents.

Today, there is no question of resuming work, as Mariupol remains without power and communications due to Russia's military invasion of Ukraine. Emergency teams are doing their best and are repairing equipment damaged by enemy fire. There are no communications in the city at the moment, but we are hopeful they will be restored soon.

Metinvest Group is ready to deliver food and essentials to Mariupol at any time. However, the worst thing that the enemy is doing is preventing the opening of humanitarian corridors. As a result, they are creating a humanitarian disaster in Mariupol.

Volunteers from our enterprises have rallied together to help the residents of Mariupol and nearby communities who have been left homeless. They have collected warm clothes and delivered food. The Group has provided accommodation and meals for over 130 people at the Chaika Hotel.

The Group’s enterprises in Mariupol are also helping our military with fuel. We work in the knowledge that Ukraine will be victorious!

APPEAL TO MINERS AND STEELWORKERS IN RUSSIA

To our Russian colleagues: not long ago, we called you our friends and brothers. We attended the same schools and sat through the same university lectures. We stood side-by-side as we operated furnaces to produce steel and mined ore from the depths. Please hear this truth, which we could never have thought possible. This is the truth that we, your Ukrainian colleagues, want to tell you.

It has been almost a week since columns with tonnes of heavy armour monsters began trying to break through, bringing gloom and death. Thousands of bombs are falling on Ukrainian cities; they are being shelled by missiles and artillery of all types and calibres. Ukrainian men, soldiers and those enrolled in the territorial defence are being killed. But the most devastating thing is that our children, women and elderly people are under fire and are dying every day, every hour and every minute. Thousands of families are losing their homes and trying to flee from their cities and villages in Ukraine. This is a full-scale war, which your leaders in Russia falsely call a ‘special operation’ to hide its true extent.

When Hitler began waging a war of aggression against our nations on 22 June 1941, he also tried to avoid using the word ‘war’ in his speech. He instead spoke of an operation that aimed solely to defend against the Soviet threat. Today, 75 years later, does this sound familiar, Russian colleagues.

The heavy armour bearing down on us was smelted by the hardworking hands of the steelworkers at Magnitogorsk and Severstal using the ore that you mined in Russia. We are being shelled by the non-ferrous metal of Norilsk and Krasnoyarsk. The missiles and military jets that kill our people are made from your steel. The most grieving thing to see is that these jets and tanks are operated by your children, young guys who are barely 19 or 20 years old.

The steel capital of Ukraine – the border city of Mariupol, which has become one of the most prosperous cities of the Donbas area – is under fire today. Residential neighbourhoods are being razed to the ground, and civilians are suffering and dying. The Russian army is shelling it from all sides, hitting residential and civilian targets, aiming its missiles at the city center. Three schools have already been bombed.

Do you agree with this? Do you support the regime that sends your people to certain death and kills our children? If not, why do you stay silent?

The first deliveries will come from the Netherlands, Germany, Romania, Poland and Italy. The list of countries is constantly expanding. Metinvest and DTEK will also buy provisions in Europe to help the affected Ukrainians.

A hub will be set up in Poland to consolidate aid and send it to Ukraine. It will be delivered in containers via Ukrainian railways.

Declaration of Force Majeure for Clients and Partners

Dear Clients and Partners! We regret to inform you that, like many other Ukrainian and Ukraine-related companies, Metinvest companies are facing what we consider to be a Force Majeure situation.

The ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, military blockades of sea ports, destruction or threat to land infrastructures could impair the performance of our contractual obligations. As of 24 February 2022, 05:30 (GMT+2), martial law has been introduced all over Ukraine. In addition, the National Bank of Ukraine imposed moratorium on cross-border payments, which may also impede our contractual payments into and out of Ukraine.

Please consider the above as a declaration of Force Majeure.

The facts of Force majeure are confirmed by Letter No. 2024/02.0-7.1 of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine dated 28.02.2022.

Metinvest continues to supply Ukrainian hospitals with medical oxygen in spite of the active combat situation. Ilyich Steel shipped oxygen for three additional days after switching to hot preservation mode.

Now that Ilyich Steel and Azovstal have been put into hot preservation, hospitals in the Donetsk region, including in Mariupol, will continue to receive oxygen from Zaporizhstal. In addition, we have received a request from the Ministry of Health to supply hospitals with oxygen during the state of emergency.

For our part, we informed the Ministry of Health about the problems with the Mariupol plants, while assuring them that we are ready to make every effort in order to meet the needs of Ukrainian hospitals from our Zaporizhstal and Kametstal facilities.
