Zaporizhzhia receives powerful generators from Metinvest as part of the Saving Lives project

The backup power equipment was installed at the city's critical infrastructure facilities

As part of the Saving Lives humanitarian project, Metinvest Group continues to provide Ukrainian cities with alternative power sources. Recently, 16 backup power generators from partners of Saving Lives have been delivered to Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Kamianske and Pokrovsk.

All the diesel generators were distributed to critical infrastructure facilities, including boiler houses, “points of invincibility”, kindergartens, etc. Most of the equipment was donated by STRABAG, the Austrian construction company. The Embassy of Ukraine in Austria provided organisational assistance in delivering the generators to Ukrainian cities, while the Do it Together charity foundation, as part of the Saving Lives project, took care of the logistics and direct delivery.

”The powerful diesel generators that Zaporizhzhia received from our European partners as part of the Saving Lives project, and that were delivered to the city by Metinvest Group, will certainly support critical infrastructure in the event of possible power outages. We are grateful to our European partners, STRABAG, and the Embassy of Ukraine in Austria, for this significant support," said Yevgen Avdzhy, Zaporizhstal's Procurement Director.

Three generators were delivered to the City Heating Networks company in Zaporizhzhia. According to Petro Ozerov, the company’s Production Director, these powerful generators will ensure the trouble-free restoration of heating supplies to the apartments of Zaporizhzhia residents. The generators allow for a reduction in the time required to restore heating supplies after power outages. Another advantage of the imported devices is their quick start-up.

“When the power goes out, all the equipment in the boiler house, including pumps, stops working. These diesel generators supply energy to booster pumps that maintain a constant pressure in the district's pipelines and internal building systems. It makes it very easy to start heating the apartments of Zaporizhzhia residents. The equipment is of high quality. It is turned on by pressing a single button and the power is supplied to the pump using a toggle switch. The whole procedure takes ten minutes. We are grateful to the Do it Together Foundation, Saving Lives and Metinvest for the support provided," said Petro Ozerov.

STRABAG is showing its support for Ukrainians both in words and in real actions. Clemens Haselsteiner, the CEO of STRABAG SE, stated:

”STRABAG strongly condemns Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine and supports all initiatives aimed at helping the victims in Ukraine. We are grateful to the Embassy of Ukraine in Austria and our Ukrainian partner, the Saving Lives project of Metinvest Group, for their help in organising the logistics and delivery of diesel generators to Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv and Kamianske. This reliable equipment will ensure the uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure facilities in these cities.”
