Over almost a year and a half of full-scale war, Metinvest Group has delivered more than 1,500 UAVs to various units of the Ukrainian defence forces. All the aid is provided free of charge as part of Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front military initiative.
The dynamics of the “drone war” are gaining momentum daily. Ukrainian defenders widely use UAVs for reconnaissance, guidance, adjustment of attacks, destruction of targets and collection of information about hits. However, in combat conditions, equipment is perishable and needs replacing quickly. To ensure the country’s soldiers’ superiority over the enemy, Metinvest has established a systematic supply of UAVs of various modifications.

In addition to purchasing directly, the Group has taken on organising the search, supply and logistics for these critical devices. This is a large amount of work, greatly facilitates the defenders’ mission and allows them to focus on confronting the aggressor.
Air “eyes” for the military
One of the most popular models among defenders is DJI Mavic reconnaissance drones, which help to detect equipment and Russian movements effectively and adjust attacks on their positions. The model’s competitive advantages are excellent optics and navigation. For example, Metinvest provided a record large batch of UAVs – 100 Mavic 3 Fly More Combo – to the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to protect the eastern and southern areas of the front.
Another of the most technologically advanced models on the market is the Autel EVO II. It is equipped with a powerful camera and two communication channels. The parts of the drone body are made of carbon fibre, which gives additional strength. The set includes a tablet controller, batteries and lights. In particular, a batch of such UAVs was sent to the Main Directorate of Intelligence.
Decompression: what equipment Metinvest delivers to the defenders of Ukraine
Metinvest also delivers aircraft-based reconnaissance UAVs, such as Valkyries, to the front line. Ten such unmanned aerial systems were recently sent to border guards. “Invisible” to enemy electronic warfare systems, these Ukrainian-made UAVs can fly even in difficult weather conditions and provide valuable information about the location and movement of the enemy that cannot be obtained otherwise.
The defenders have received 50 reconnaissance aircraft from Metinvest: Fury, Elves and Valkyrie
Yuriy Ryzhenkov, CEO of Metinvest Group, said:
“The availability of modern UAVs is an important guarantee of the army’s success during hostilities. The equipment helps to monitor the opponent’s forces, redirect weapons, take measures to stop the enemy’s advance and save lives. As such, since the beginning of the war, Metinvest, as part of Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front military initiative, has focused its efforts on continuously supplying UAVs to our defenders. So far, we have already delivered more than 1,500 technological ‘birds’ to the front and will continue to supply them. We believe in the victory of Ukraine and are doing our best to ensure that this moment comes as soon as possible and our soldiers return home.”
The number of drones delivered makes Metinvest the largest supplier of UAVs to the army among private businesses, excluding charitable foundations.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Metinvest has donated over UAH2 billion to help the Ukrainian army as part of Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front military initiative. In addition to drones, the Group supplies the country’s defence forces with military optics, protective gear, mobile shelters, protective shields for cars, vehicles and other equipment that helps to stop the aggressor.
