As part of the city's environmental program, measures are being taken to kill harmful plants on the territory of the industrial site and in sanitary protection zones at Metinvest's Ingulets GOK.

The beginning of August is the period of active flowering of ragweed and other allergenic plants, which can cause many people to develop hay fever. This disease is common among the population of the steppe zone of Ukraine, to which Kryvyi Rih belongs. To solve the problem of quarantine plants in the city, city crews, residents of condominiums, the private sector, and businesses have united. In particular, at the Ingulets Iron Ore Enrichment Plant every year from mid-spring until the first frosts, comprehensive measures are taken to control harmful weeds.

The most widely used mechanical method is the mowing of quarantine plants. It is held regularly on the territory of all shops of the enterprise, along roads, in places where employees rest, near household buildings, and in sanitary and protective zones. Herbicides are also used to destroy harmful weeds. It can penetrate weeds through leaves and other green parts, affecting the growth points and causing the aboveground and underground parts of the plant to die.

"To free the city from quarantine plants, which significantly harm the population, it is necessary to continue to carry out work on their destruction, increase the cultivated areas and look for new effective and ecological methods of control. At the Ingulets GOK only during July, mowing was done on 27.7 hectares of the territory, on another 10 hectares we used a herbicide that is harmless to people, animals, and other plants. This year, as always, we will carry out these works until the cold weather, so as unable allergenic plants to bloom and spread harmful pollen", said the head of the environmental protection department of the Ingulets GOK Yevhenii Bohonskyi.

Successful results from the quarantine weeds control have also been recorded at other Metinvest enterprises in Kryvyi Rih, which are also actively involved in the implementation of the city's environmental program.
