Kamet Steel locomotives have been equipped with GPS navigation

Iron ore raw materials, coke, ladles with hot metal and other goods necessary for production - all this moves along the territory of the plant by rail. Finished metal products are also sent to customers by rail. To improve the efficiency of logistics processes at Kamet Steel, the locomotives have been upgraded with GPS navigation systems.

The installation of electronic tracking systems will greatly facilitate the work of dispatchers. With the new equipment, they will record the location of locomotives and centrally control their movement. In turn, the drivers will be able to perform more rational manoeuvres. As a result, the idle time of locomotives and the cost of freight transportation will be significantly reduced.

"An average of 30 locomotives work at the enterprise every day. When they start moving along the branched railway arteries of the enterprise, it is very difficult for the personnel managing the transportation processes to track exactly where this or that locomotive is located in order to avoid forced stops", notes Sergiy KHOLODOV, Head of Rolling Stock Operation Function of Railway Transport Department . "For the optimal load of locomotives, we have installed GPS systems at all rolling stock in operation. Now, locomotives, which move freight wagons, will not have to stop and wait for other ones to pass, which means that precious time for production process will not be lost. Today, we are also able to analyse and verify the routes of movement of locomotives for a certain period of time”.
