From July to October, construction work will continue in the Karpivka community to overhaul the roof of the local lyceum. The project is being implemented within the framework of a trilateral memorandum of cooperation between Metinvest's Integrated GOK, the Karpivka Village Council and the NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future”.

25 settlements, almost 5.5 thousand residents, and dozens of projects that change the community. Metinvest and the NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation of the Future" have been supporting the Karpivka Territorial Community for many years. They help to update the infrastructure, support educational and cultural institutions. This time, they took up the problem that had been bothering the local lyceum for years – the old roof. For partners, it is important that the support is not formal, but gives people specific changes – from basic conditions to opportunities for children to learn and develop.

“We strive to ensure that the community has proper roads, access to drinking water and the necessary conditions for receiving medical and educational services. It is especially important to us that we are working for the sake of our children today; we want them to have the opportunity to learn in an environment that is cozy, safe, and comfortable – a place where they can grow, dream, and envision their future right here in Ukraine. Therefore, our contribution to this project is a contribution to the future of our children," said Olena LESCHENKO, director of the NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future".

This lyceum is the only general secondary education institution serving one of the community's administrative districts. More than 90 children study here. The building was constructed in 1982, and over the decades, the roof caused the most significant problems. Rainwater would leak into the classrooms, making partial repairs no longer sufficient.

“The biggest problem was that on the second floor, water flowed on the ceilings of classrooms of grades 5-6 during the period when it began to rain. This is very dangerous for both the educational institution and the students. "The staff never even imagined that in these challenging times we could get a new, durable roof," said Larysa KARPETS, the lyceum’s principal.

Now the old roof is completely replaced. The old roofing has already been removed, and new rafters and wall plates have been installed; metal roofing tiles are now being laid over them. The work is still ongoing, but after completion, the new roof should protect the building from precipitation and allow children and teachers to study in proper conditions.

We are grateful to our partners for supporting Ukrainian youth through their responsible stance and for working on the country's recovery right now," said Olena KYKOT, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Karpivka Village Council.

The community says it is important that such projects address specific problems residents face every day.
