In 2026, Metinvest’s Consolidated Iron Ore intends to continue its co-operation with Petrivka Settlement Council and the NGO “Kryvyi Rih Future Foundation” with the aim of making life in the Petrivka territorial community more comfortable and safer for its residents. The parties set out their joint plans for the year in a subsequent memorandum.
Petrivka community and Consolidated Iron Ore are connected by many shared factors. Above all, this is due to their geographical proximity, as the community, which belongs to Kirovohrad Region, borders the city of Kryvyi Rih. In addition, Central Iron Ore conducts mining operations at Petrivskyi and Artemivskyi open pits, which are located within the community’s territory. All of this contributes to many residents of Petrivshchyna finding employment at Metinvest’s Iron Ore Plants. Over the decades, the destinies of the enterprise and the people have become closely intertwined, forming a shared history.
In the years prior to the start of the full-scale invasion, Metinvest, together with the administration of Petrivka territorial community, implemented a number of projects aimed at improving local infrastructure, developing healthcare, education and sports, and enhancing parks, public spaces, and residential areas.
Since 2022, the company has continued to support the community in addressing urgent issues, such as: provision of housing for internally displaced persons and delivery of humanitarian aid to vulnerable population groups. According to Svitlana TYLYK, Head of Petrivka Settlement Council, since the start of the full-scale invasion the community has received and supported nearly two thousand forcibly displaced persons.

The challenges of wartime have significantly influenced the identification of the key areas of co‑operation between business and the community. For the third consecutive year, the key projects implemented with co‑funding from Metinvest and coordinated by the NGO “Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future” have focused on creating safe and comfortable spaces within educational institutions.
“Over the past two years, we have managed to carry out a great deal of work, which is already benefiting students and education professionals today. With the support of Metinvest, a comprehensive renovation of the premises of the local lyceum was carried out in the village of Novyi Starodub. At present, they are being used as classrooms, and, if necessary, can comfortably accommodate up to 150 internally displaced persons. A large-scale reconstruction and fit-out of a 1,000 m² shelter has been completed at Petrivka Lyceum. At present, this space is being actively used in the educational process for young people,” said Olena LESHCHENKO, Director of the NGO Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future.

The intentions set out in the 2026 co‑operation memorandum represent a logical continuation of the projects already completed. This year, the company will allocate resources to carry out the second phase of renovation works at the Dzvinochok kindergarten in the village of Novyi Starodub.
"We appreciate the fact that Petrivka community has currently prioritised the safety of children during the learning process and is pursuing this goal persistently, year after year. And Metinvest sincerely supports the residents of Petrivka in this endeavour. Despite the exceptionally difficult and dangerous circumstances, children must feel safe; they should be able to continue learning, attending nurseries and schools, and socialising with their peers. This year, we will help to implement a very important project for our youngest children. Together with the community, we will create a welcoming environment and a reliable shelter at the Dzvinochok kindergarten, renovate the interior premises, and carry out landscaping of the surrounding area. We believe that such social initiatives are sound investments in the future, in the development of the community, and in people’s well-being,” said Ihor TONIEV, General Director of Metinvest Group’s Consolidated Iron Ore.
The memorandum for this year also stipulates that the company’s mining enterprises will support Petrivka community, where necessary, in mitigating the consequences of emergency situations; will deploy heavy machinery for the watering of technological roads and berms; will carry out road maintenance and improvement works, including resurfacing works and winter clearance operations.
