Works on the roof of a lyceum in the Hleiuvatka community, funded by Metinvest Integrated Iron Ore, are nearing completion. Major renovation of the large, half-century-old educational building is being carried out for the first time since it was constructed. The business is providing support to the community as part of a memorandum of cooperation on social and economic development.
Long-standing friendly relations between Metinvest Integrated Iron Ore and the community, part of whose territory is home to Metinvest's operations, are based on partnership and consideration of the interests of both sides. As part of memoranda, signed between Metinvest, the Hleiuvatka Village Council, and the NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future", important infrastructure and social projects are being implemented. Over this period, medical outpatient clinics have been renovated and equipped with the necessary equipment, and a modern local police office has been opened. In addition, a road is being repaired, while kindergartens and schools are being renovated.
"This year, our efforts are focused on addressing the most pressing needs of village residents. The main concerns are insulating the facilities where their children study, as well as introducing technical solutions to ensure an uninterrupted water supply in the community's settlements. Our cooperation with the Hleiuvatka community and Metinvest is not just about plans, but about concrete projects that are already improving people's quality of life in rural areas," said Olena LESHENKO, Director of the NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future".
Currently, the second stage of roof reconstruction at a lyceum in one of the villages of the Hleiuvatka community is nearing completion. Instead of the outdated roll roofing, the roof is being fitted with profiled metal sheets. The drainage system and eaves have already been replaced, and air ducts have been installed. Currently, workers are installing rafters and completing the brickwork of the eaves.
"This project is costly and its implementation requires a lot of time, so the reconstruction was divided into two stages. Last year, we completed part of the roofing, and this year, we are finishing the full scope of work on the roof reconstruction. For us, this renovation is not simply about repairing a building; first and foremost, it is about the safety and comfort of children and teachers. Even during wartime in the country, we are looking for partners and donors. What is particularly valuable is that together with them we have developed a certain system and a comprehensive approach to developing our community," said Dmytro HURIEIEV, First Deputy Head of the Hleiuvatka Village Council.
This area has a population of over 1,200 people, living in six small villages. 150 children attend the school there. This is the first major roof replacement in the building's half-century history. The renovation will significantly improve the building's insulation, helping to keep heat inside.
"Teachers, students, and their parents are sincerely grateful to our partners for investing their funds and efforts in renovating the roof of our institution. From around January until June, the main part of our building, where the classrooms are located, was re-roofed, and now the work on the other section, above the sports hall and canteen, is about to be finished too," said Liudmulf ZHOVNER, Director of the Lyceum.
In previous years, projects supported by Metinvest also made it possible to renovate the kindergarten in the same village. In the new academic year, school students will be able to study in comfort.
