With Metinvest's assistance, the Shyroke community is to have an updated gym

The works on revamping the gym to meet modern standards in Lyceum No. 1 in Shyroke are nearing completion. Thanks to the support of Metinvest's Iron Ore Plants and coordination by the NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future," children will have a comfortable and safe space for sports. It can be used not only for physical education classes, but also for district and regional competitions. Over the years, as well as during the war, Metinvest continues to invest in the development of youth and education.

Lyceum No. 1 is the biggest in the Shyroke community. Nearly 500 students study here. There is a shelter that ensures their safety. However, for years, students lacked room for movement, sports, and team spirit. The old gym had lost its attractiveness many years ago: leaks in the roof, dull walls, a worn floor. Thanks to Metinvest's Iron Ore Plants, the situation has changed. The gym is undergoing final works and soon students will have a cosy gym.

"We have been dreaming about such a beautiful gym since the early 2000s. We had been trying to repair it, but some external challenges hindered us. And finally, our dream came true. Last year, thanks to Metinvest, we repaired the gym's roof, and this year we have a spacious and functional facility for sports. This is the second revamped gym in our lyceum. The first one, which is smaller and now in operation, was funded by Iron Ore Plants five years ago," said Liudmyla KYRYLCHUK, Principal of Lyceum No. 1 in Shyroke.

The joint path of the Shyroke community and Metinvest is years of partnership and positive changes. Before the war, they collaborated to make people's lives better and more safe. Today, the main focus is on children. Thanks to this cooperation, it is possible to build modern and safe spaces for education, development, and dreams of a bright future. The NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future" coordinates the works.

"This year, we have been continuing our projects aimed at safe education for children. In this case, it concerns physical education. Currently, the overhaul of the gym, including changing rooms and toilets for both boys and girls, is in the final stage. Everything to make them feel comfortable and safe here," noted Olena LESHENKO, Director of the NGO "Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future."

The new gym in Lyceum No. 1 will open its doors to children in November.

"Building new and revamping existing facilities, which are essential for children, are the main objective for us. Thanks to our partners, the Shyroke community's settlements have changed for the better significantly. Everything is done to ensure that families of Iron Ore Plants' employees have more comfort and stay on their land. Our joint work is very important," said Oleksandr KOKUL, Head of Shyroke.

Due to cooperation with a responsible business, in recent years new roofed public transport stops, playgrounds for children, a mini-football field, photo zones, and art objects have appeared. Major overhauls have been done at the local Youth Sports School and the square next to the Cultural House. The community police have received a service vehicle. Also, as part of a memorandum, rural and inter-village roads undergo annual repairs.
