Zaporizhstal employees master the profession of crane operator

Learning at any age is always a good idea. This is exactly what Zaporizhstal believes. The company has recently launched training for employees who wanted to obtain a second profession – a crane operator in metallurgical production.

The first training group has already completed a two-week theoretical intensive course at a professional educational institution with which Zaporizhstal cooperates. And now the "students" are already practicing their skills under the mentorship of experienced employees.

One of the trainees, Kseniia Dudnik, is a quality technician in the ferrous metal production in the Hot Rolling Shop. She says she never misses an opportunity to try something new for herself and gain knowledge that can help her increase her income.

“On-the-job training is very convenient. Recently, I was working as a controller, and today I am operating a crane here. I like it, it's certainly not easy, but my mentor helps me to master all the intricacies of this work,” says Kseniia DUDNIK.

Oleh Fedorchenko is an experienced crane operator at the Hot Rolling Shop and Kseniia's mentor. During two weeks, he will monitor, coordinate and guide the trainee's work to ensure that the theoretical knowledge gained is applied directly to production tasks.

“The simulator that Ksenia trained on during the theoretical course helps to understand the basic principles of operation, but still differs from real-world conditions. You need to react quickly, make decisions and be attentive, because people are working under the crane. Kseniia is doing well, and we have two weeks of work ahead of us, during which I will try to give the future crane operator the best of my knowledge and skills,” says Oleh.

Kseniia admits: the biggest fear is behind me, because I have experienced colleagues who will always support me with a piece of advice.

"When you take on such a responsible job, it's important to have experienced supervisors by your side. This is a regular practice at the works – supporting an employee who is learning a second profession or a newcomer who has just been hired. This gives you confidence and the opportunity to gain as much invaluable experience as possible,” adds Kseniia.
