Metallurgy, once considered the preserve of men, also has a woman's face. Zaporizhstal employs more than 2,000 female specialists, whose hard work is essential to the company's success. They are frail and strong, they break stereotypes, and they are also well versed in production and are able to operate multi-tonne machines on an equal footing with men.
Nataliia KUPRIY, a crane operator in the cold rolling shop, is among them. After graduating from Zaporizhzhya Professional Metallurgical Lyceum in 2014, Nataliia Kupriy joined Zaporizhstal as a crane operator in the cold rolling shop. Back then, Nataliia says, mastering the profession of an operator seemed like a challenge. However, under the supervision of experienced mentors, she quickly acquired all the necessary skills. She recalls her first faltering steps and attempts in the profession with a smile, as today she can put newcomers to a trade.
– I come to work as if I were at home - everything here is already my own, close to my heart, and familiar. I have the crane as my fingertips. It seems I can operate it even with my eyes closed. However, 10 years ago, everything was completely different - everything was new to me, I had to learn everything," she recalls.
Most people think that Nataliia's profession is not a woman's one, but she does not think so.
– A lot of people say to me "this is not a woman's job", 'why do you work here? But all these are stereotypes. "At Zaporizhstal, it is mostly women who operate these large 'machines' and they do it no worse than men," Nataliia noted.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Nataliia's attitude to work has changed completely. The female metallurgist is convinced that her work at Zaporizhstal is her contribution to Ukraine's victory, to supporting the economy, and helps the country to withstand difficult times.
– We all do an important job – the mill operates, exports products, pays taxes, and supports the military and civilians of Ukraine. And the mill's employees are an important part of this great process. We have to be strong and courageous under any circumstances and continue to do what we do best – work for our Victory," added Nataliia Kupriy.
