As part of upgrading the equipment of the gas boosting station in the Gas Shop, Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich Steel) of Metinvest Group installed seven new boosters of Piller Blowers & Compressors GmbH (Germany) with Siemens electric motors. Investments in the project totalled UAH 34 million.
Gas boosters are intended to compress the blast furnace (BF) gas by increasing its pressure for further transportation to consumers at the steel works, particularly, 1700 HSM, cold rolling, and heat and power plant.
The new installations are equipped with vibration and temperature sensors and automatic control system. Each booster of Piller Blowers & Compressors GmbH (Germany) has greater capacity than the previous equipment, i.e. 75 thousand cubic metres per hour.
One the features of Pillar made equipment is that they use anti-friction bearings instead of friction bearings. Due to this, we will spend less time and efforts on their maintenance and repair.— Aleksandr TRETIAKOV, deputy gas shop manager for quality at Ilyich Steel of Metinvest Group.
New electric motors of Siemens also have their advantages. They will help reduce the consumption of electricity for BF gas transportation by 20%.
