Kamet-Steel's 400/200 Rolling Mill Completes Key Stage of Staged Major Overhaul

Increasing the reliability of equipment for the efficient production of high-quality merchant products. As part of the 2024 overhaul program, important equipment of the 400/200 mill was restored at Kamet-Steel.

The staged major overhaul crossed its key milestone, during which the repairmen focused their efforts primarily on the equipment of the reheating furnace and the line of rolling stands.

The main tasks were successfully completed – ten water-cooled heating racks of the furnace were replaced with the simultaneous replacement of pipelines. Also, the specialists of Zaporizhvognetryv restored the refractory lining of nine ten-meter horizontal racks, which play a key role in the process of cooling water exchange. This makes it possible to reduce the consumption of natural gas for heating the billets by maintaining the required temperature in the furnace.

Key equipment was repaired at the rolling stand line during the eight-day scheduled shutdown of the mill. In particular, the body of the descaler at the exit of billets from the furnace was replaced with a new one of modern design with a new collector and a high-pressure pump.

An important part of the overhaul in terms of the scope of work and importance was completed – the replacement of metal structures of the rolling stand flooring, which makes it possible to improve the safety of mill rollers.

Metal structures, assemblies and parts of eight loopers, which create the required tension between the stands, were also repaired and partially replaced. The design of the internal seals was improved and the gearboxes were restored at the cooling bed.

The contractors together with the specialists of the shop repair functions and Equipment Repair and Maintenance Shop of Metinvest Promservice performed a considerable amount of work on the repair and renewal of the power and electrical equipment of the mill. In particular, two automated butterfly valves of improved design were installed on the heating furnace.

Maksym KUTVITSKYI, Deputy Head of the Rolling Shop for Engineering:

"400/200 mill is the leading rolling mill of Kamet-Steel, which plays a significant role in the implementation of the program for the production of merchant products and improving the operational efficiency of the enterprise. Successful implementation of the repair program allows us to ensure reliable and trouble-free operation of the mill equipment, avoiding its unscheduled unproductive downtime. Also, by restoring the lining of the heating furnace components, we hope to reduce the consumption of natural gas and thereby increase the efficiency of the production site and the shop."
