Roman Horodenskyi, marine intelligence officer got an apartment from "The Heart of Azovstal"

Mariupol defender Roman Horodenskyi got his own apartment in Kyiv region under the programme "The Heart of Azovstal. At home".

Roman is a marine, intelligence officer. During the defence of Mariupol, he was seriously wounded. The shell exploded 5 metres away from him. Roman lost his leg, received numerous shrapnel wounds and fractures to his arm. On April 12, 2022, he was captured.

Despite his serious condition, the Russians abused the defender. Due to the lack of medical care, he developed sepsis. To save his life, his injured arm had to be amputated. As Roman was seriously wounded, he was sent to one of the first exchanges. In captivity, the soldier lost 40 kilograms.

Roman's girlfriend was waiting for him at home. The couple got married at the end of last year. Today, Roman continues his rehabilitation. Under the programme "Heart of Azovstal. Health", the defender is being prepared for the installation of a bionic arm prosthesis. At the same time, the defender heads a charity foundation and helps his fellow soldiers who also need prosthetics. The defender underwent part of his rehabilitation in the United States, and now he is actively using the connections he has made there to help Ukrainian soldiers.

"Currently, "The Heart of Azovstal" is helping Roman to fix a bionic prosthesis. This is a complex process, because it is a stationary structure that is implanted into the bone tissue. It requires a long preparation process. And we go through this path together. I am sure that for Roman, it is not only about restoring his physical capabilities, but also about gaining valuable experience that will be useful in helping others. Owning an apartment is another step on the way back to a high quality life. After all, this is the fulfilment of basic needs. Now Roman can concentrate on his work. We are ready to share our experience and support him in every way possible, because we have common goals," said Ksenia SUKHOVA, Head of "The Heat of Azovstal".

In addition, the defender received a job offer in the capital, but he could not accept it because he had no place to live in Kyiv. Now Roman has his own apartments in the suburbs and is already planning to get a job.

"My wife and I wanted to settle down in Kyiv or near the capital for a long time. I even had a job offer, but I said that I would be able to accept it when I bought a car and an apartment. And so Rinat Akhmetov and "The Heart of Azovstal" helped us a lot and bought us an apartment. Now we have a very strong base, and we can apply for a job. And more to come. Now we have everything we wanted," said Roman HORODENSKYI.

The young couple are already settling into their new home and making plans for the future. For more information about the "At Home" programme and the terms of participation, please visit "The Heart of Azovstal" website.
