Azovstal of Metinvest Group completed major overhaul and put into operation a TEM-2UM locomotive designed for transportation of sinter between Azovstal and Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich Steel). The investments totalled about UAH 7 million.
Railway Transport Shop of Azovstal carefully monitors condition of their equipment by inspecting and repairing the rolling stock. Following the three-month maintenance campaign, the TEM-2UM locomotive was put in operation there. This is the fifth locomotive that has been repaired year-to-date.
The TEM-2UM locomotive was repaired in the special depot of Zaporizhia Locomotive Repair Plant. It took almost three months to refurbish the locomotive to bring back its performance parameters. The upgrade allowed to extend the life cycle of the machinery by another six years.
— Oleg UKRAINSKY, the head of Locomotive Department of Azovstal Railway Transport Shop.The locomotive maintenance included a large number of activities: the cylinder block, crankshaft, base frame, electrical wiring and auto-couplers were replaced; wheel steel tyres were repaired with replacement of large drive gears, and traction electric motors were repaired with replacement of small gears. The operator cabin was renewed and a new anti-vibration chair was installed.
