Metinvest Group and the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation have been supporting Ukraine’s medical institutions for many years. They buy equipment, repair and upgrade hospitals and purchase medicines. The war has become a new challenge. Doctors are the guardian angels of both soldiers and civilians, but doctors also need help.
Metinvest Group, together with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation, has purchased vital medicines to provide emergency medical care to people affected by the hostilities. Doctors from Zaporizhia, Kryvyi Rih, Avdiivka, Myrnohrad, Pokrovske and Kamianske have already received the first batch of medicines and instruments with a total value exceeding UAH 30 million.
The doctors determined the list of essential items themselves. Rinat Akhmetov and Vadym Novynskyi’s Metinvest Group processed the request and, in coordination with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, identified the list of necessary medicines. In particular, antibiotics, as well as anti-inflammatory, analgesic and haemostatic drugs, anticoagulants, intravenous infusion solutions, surgical instruments and consumables, intubation products, and others were purchased. Subsequent deliveries of medicines will also be arranged on the basis of requests made by medical institution.
I would like to express my appreciation for the assistance rendered by a socially responsible business. What pleases me about this arrangement of aid in cooperation with Metinvest is that we first get to choose what is needed, and then they bring us the necessary medicines and consumables. So, there is no duplication or lack of medicines because everything is properly organised. The drugs that are obtained are vital because they are associated with emergency care. They are needed for surgeries, anaesthesia. Usually we received one item, sutures or dressing material, rather than a full surgical kit. Then you have to look for the remaining necessary items. And now it is impossible to buy medicines anywhere, the manufacturer does not have them, there is nothing in the warehouses, and there are no deliveries to the pharmacy. Therefore, such support from Metinvest is very important. Thank you very much to the company.

Before being distributed and delivered to Ukrainian cities, medicines and instruments arrive at the humanitarian hub in Zaporizhia.
“Today, doctors are more than talented and professional medical personnel, they are real heroic rescuers who, amid the gloom of war, give hope and a chance for life. We strive to help them and meet the needs of medical institutions for the most necessary medicines,” said Oleksandr MYRONENKO, Head of the Centre for Coordination of Metinvest's Humanitarian Mission in Zaporizhia, General Director of Zaporizhstal.
By the way, this is not the first time during the war that Zaporizhstal has helped doctors. In mid-March, the plant transferred 1,610 medical kits with medicines for surgical, dressing and outpatient wards. Four hospitals in Zaporizhia received them. Metinvest Group has allocated approximately UAH 700,000 for the purchase of life-saving medicines.
Avdiivka's doctors also received assistance from Metinvest Group
We help not only cities, but also smaller communities. In mid-March, Metinvest, together with the Kryvyi Rih Foundation for the Future, helped to purchase essential medicines for medical institutions in Lozuvatska municipality. Four outpatient clinics and 14 health centres received the necessary medicines. They serve approximately 18,000 people.
We fulfil our obligations in spite of everything
Unfortunately, trouble does not come alone. The war did not cancel COVID-19. Patients still need oxygen. Previously, it was supplied by Ilyich Steel, Azovstal, Zaporizhstal and Kamet Steel. Due to the hot conservation mode of production facilities, only Kamianske has been able to support doctors with oxygen for a long time. But we continue to fight for every life, both in war and on the homefront. In March, the production of Kamet Steel's oxygen compressor shop shipped almost 100 tonnes of oxygen to hospitals free of charge.
We don’t just strengthen health
Together the city authorities, Metinvest Group and the State Emergency Service installed a generator in the city hospital of Myrnohrad. Now doctors have an autonomous source of electricity in case of emergencies.
And in Pokrovske, in order to protect the electricity supply in the hospital, Pokrovske Coal’s employees protected the generator with a metal box. Doctors also covered it with sandbags to protect the emergency power source from possible damage. The generator itself appeared at the Pokrovske Clinical Hospital of Intensive Care just before the beginning of 2022. Metinvest also helped with its purchase and installation.
In Zaporizhia, they have also helped to protect social infrastructure, in particular hospitals. At the Fifth city hospital, they unloaded sand, poured it into bags and put it under the walls, and they also covered the glass doors of the first floor.
We are staying in Ukraine, we believe in it and we will win! We would like to remind you that from the first day of the war and to today, the businesses of System Capital Management, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and FC Shakhtar have donated around UAH 1.4 billion to help the country. This amount includes support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the territorial defence forces, as well as humanitarian assistance to civilians. Everyone is doing everything possible to ensure that people, cities and the state remain standing in the war with the Russian Federation.
In addition to help from Metinvest, at the request of the head of the Military Administration of Kryvyi Rih, Oleksandr Vilkul, the Vadym Novynskyi Foundation purchased UAH 17.5 million worth of medicines and food for residents and refugees in Kryvyi Rih. The supplies are only medicines. The Vadym Novynskyi Foundation has purchased modern medical equipment for hospitals in Zaporizhia for UAH 15 million.
