As part of Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front initiative, Metinvest has provided Ukraine’s 137th separate marine battalion with a trusted assistant, a DJI Mavic 3 Fly More Combo drone. It was presented by Ivan Kovalevskyi, general director of Metinvest-Resource.
Commenting on the news, Kovalevskyi said: “Helping and supporting the defence forces of Ukraine is our direct duty. While our people are fighting for independence at the front, we are doing everything at the rear to make their work more effective and Ukraine’s victory happen as soon as possible.”
This is the first time that this battalion has received assistance from Metinvest. Its soldiers had said that as drones are expendable on the battlefield, there are not enough of them on the front.
A servicemen under the pseudonym “Alex” said: “We are now in one of the hottest spots and no mistakes are needed. We must react quickly to any movements and all actions must be clear, coordinated and verified. This drone will become our eyes in the sky and help us to be even more effective and drive the enemy off Ukrainian land faster.”
Metinvest has already allocated more than UAH2 billion to support the Ukrainian army. To strengthen the country’s defence capability, the Group established systematic supplies of military equipment to the front. In particular, the defence forces have received over 1,500 drones, which makes Metinvest one of the largest private business suppliers of drones to the army.
