In 2024, Kamet Steel steelmakers developed 13 new types of steel products

In 2024, Metinvest Group's steelmaking enterprises responded to market demand by developing 20 new types of steel products. The steelmakers of Kamet Steel are leading the way, having added 13 new product ranges to the enterprise and the company, with 12 of them in the long product segment.

The BOF shop specialists increased both the grade range and production volumes of square continuously cast billets, meeting stricter standards for chemical composition and macrostructure. This achievement marks the successful next step in improving submerged casting technology for billet continuous casting machines. The key advancement is implementing measures to protect the steel strand from secondary oxidation, resulting in higher-quality billets that meet consumer demands, particularly in the European market.

In 2024, the rolling mills of Kamet Steel led the way in expanding the product range, not just within the enterprise but across the entire company. Thanks to their teamwork, 12 new types of rolled products – either from new steel grades or in sizes never before produced at the plant – were introduced to the market over the year.

To meet market demand, four new items were added to the range of rebar products. In November, our specialists at the 400/200 mill successfully produced rebars with nominal cross-sections of 9.5 and 11.5 mm based on individual customer orders. These new sizes, along with the existing 10 and 12 mm profiles, are used in construction, particularly for concrete structures, ensuring the necessary strength and load-bearing capacity of buildings and structures.

In 2024, Kamet Steel obtained certificates confirming compliance with Polish building codes, enabling the mass production of B500B class rebars with diameters ranging from 8 to 32 mm for Polish customers. In the second half of the year, the plant delivered 18,000 tonnes of this product to the Polish market.

The plant received certification from state authorities to produce A400C class rebars in accordance with DSTU 3760 standards.

Six new products were added to the wire rod range, mainly due to the introduction of new steel grades. These steel products are in high demand among both Ukrainian and international customers.

In April, as part of the program to restore the product range partially lost due to military actions, the pipe mill successfully began producing the SVP-33 shaped section, making it the second addition to the SVP section range. A year earlier, the pipe mill of Kamet Steel became the first in Ukraine to successfully produce the SVP-27, which is designed for securing mine workings. By 2024, the rolling mills had achieved stable industrial production levels for this high-margin product.

In May, the 400/200 mill also began producing 27 mm hot-rolled round steel, primarily used in mechanical engineering.

"The rolling shop team successfully met the 2024 target, reinforcing Kamet Steel leadership in developing new products and strengthening our reputation as a customer-focused manufacturer. Our specialists have once again proven their ability to effectively respond to client demands, even in the challenging conditions of the Ukrainian and European steel markets. They continue to master new, in-demand rolled products – including custom orders – promptly and professionally. We’re not slowing down – starting from day one of the new year, we’ve already begun working on the 2025 new product development programme," Oleksandr OLIINYK, Kamet Steel's chief rolling engineer, said.
