Transportation Departments of Metinvest Iron Ore Plants undertook a range of measures to prepare machinery, equipment, production buildings, offices, and amenity facilities for operation during the winter period.
The night temperature in Kryvyi Rih has been below zero for two weeks. Morning frosts, especially after rain, change the situation on the roads. These seasonal changes involve the transition of transport to cold weather operation. The motor transport shops at Central Iron Ore and Ingulets Iron Ore, along with the automotive shop at Northern Iron Ore, prepared for winter in advance. In particular, they replaced summer tyres with winter ones on all light vehicles and delivered and stored a sand-salt blend and screenings for scattering on the routes used by employees within the shops.
"For the winter period we have purchased 180 tonnes of scattering material and prepared two MDK combined road machines equipped with spreaders and snow removal tools to keep the roads clear of snow. They are all-season machines with replaceable equipment. In summer, these machines are used for dust suppression by irrigating roads at the industrial site and plant, as well as the access routes to them," shared Serhii PETRUK, head of the motor transport shop at Central Iron Ore.

Workers of Ingulets Iron Ore also re-equipped an MDK machine for the winter period. It will be used to scatter material on the roads at the enterprise and the Ingulets residential area.
"Among the actions taken to prepare for the winter season, Ingulets Iron Ore conducted inspections and repairs of autonomous heaters for cranes and the interiors of shift cars. We also recovered and the damaged pipe heat insulation of the heating system and flushed it. Additionally, we blew air through the heaters of the main building, performed maintenance on all units of the ATC input, replaced manometers, and insulated the gates of the production building of motorcade No. 1," said Viacheslav KOLOMOIETS, head of the motor transport shop at Ingulets Iron Ore.
A proper preparation for the change of season was also made by employees of Northern Iron Ore. Viktor Miroshnychenko, head of the automotive shop at Northern Iron Ore, shared that new electric boilers for heating the rooms where vehicle repairs and maintenance are conducted, as well as repair boxes at motorcades, have been installed in the shop area. Additionally, specialists inspected and restored the gate locking devices, insulated the gates, and sealed gaps to protect against wind and cold The major part of the preparation work, except for the installation of the boilers, was carried out by the shop workers.
