Metinvest Central Iron Ore Upgrades Railway Tracks

The major overhaul of railway tracks is carried out at Central Iron Ore. Repair teams plan to renovate almost 1.5 km of track by the end of the year. Metinvest has allocated over UAH 28 mln for the implementation of this project.

Metinvest Central Iron Ore has an extensive railway track system, with the total length of 270 km. This complex railway system is serviced daily by relevant services to ensure that rock mass and produced raw materials are delivered to destinations on time and without incidents. This year, specialists from the track and railway facility shop of Central Iron Ore railway transport department, in addition to routine maintenance and repair works, are performing capital restoration of several tracks and switch points. To accelerate the large-scale capital works, an experienced team from Ingulets Iron Ore under the leadership of Dmytro Balynskyi was also involved.

"Three masters, two track fitters, and a railway construction machine operator came with me. We work every day. However, we also had a period of continuous repair process, when during a five-day 'window' we needed to dismantle old tracks and lay 400 m of new track towards the mine. At this time, the mine named after Kolachevskyi was stopped for planned repairs, so we were limited by this timeframe, and we managed to complete this responsible task," said Dmytro BALYNSKYI, head of the track service.

Currently, a major repair of 400 meters of track has been completed on the section between the "Rokuvata" and "Admin Center" stations. Last month, work continued at the "Unloading" station, where track No. 2 and track No. 6 were replaced, each 200 meters long. Additionally, 200 meters of track has been restored in the direction of the Annovsky open pit, specifically on the "Artemivka" to "Vidvalna" section. Railway workers also repaired five switching points: three at the "Industrial Site" station and one switch each at the "Unloading" and "Artemivka" stations.

"Railway tracks are a crucial part of production logistics, as most cargo is delivered to the combine by rail. The condition of the tracks is key to effective transportation. This autumn, large-scale work is underway – a major restoration of nearly 1.5 km of tracks. This will ensure the safety and reliability of transport routes for delivering ore from open pits and the mine named after Kolachevskyi to the crushing plant, as well as for transporting other cargo needed for production," noted Oleksandr MUKHA, head of the railway transport department at Central Iron Ore.
