Since the start of the full-scale war, Rinat Akhmetov has already spent UAH 9 billion to help Ukraine and Ukrainians

SCM businesses, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and FC Shakhtar have already spent UAH 9 billion (over $258 million) to help the country, the military and civilians over the 27 months of the full-scale invasion.

The main areas of assistance include support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, humanitarian support for civilians, communities, and defenders of Mariupol.

The assistance to Ukraine's defenders is being provided as part of the Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front defence project. Military units from all over the country regularly receive gear, vehicles, ambulances for military medics, underground shelters and mine trawls of our own production and design, drones, thermal imagers, electronic warfare equipment, sights, radios, cameras, clothing and footwear, body armour made of our steel, first aid kits and tourniquets, fuel, and other essential items.

Rinat Akhmetov allocated an additional UAH 1 billion ($25 million) to The Heart of Azovstal project to support the defenders of Mariupol. The defenders and their families are being assisted under seven programmes. Last November, the At Home programme was launched to help defenders of the city with disability groups I and II to get their own housing. It is planned to purchase 100 apartments in 2024.

Rinat Akhmetov's businesses and projects provide systematic humanitarian aid to civilian Ukrainians in the frontline areas and de-occupied regions. People receive food, household items, medicines, hygiene products, etc. In the cities where SCM operates, the company also takes care of shelters and refuges, hospitals, electricity, and water sources, etc. The support is also provided to local administrations and utility functions.

Since the beginning of the war, Rinat Akhmetov Foundation has donated 700,000 units of medicines to Ukrainians and over 13 million food packages since 2014. It has launched new projects to help rehabilitate children and adults affected by shelling. It is providing heaters and helping to set up dormitories for Mariupol residents in Dnipro.

Shakhtar football club also provides systematic assistance to athletes, IDPs, members of the Ukrainian defence forces and residents of the war-affected regions. The club organised and covered all the costs of treatment in the United States for Azovstal defender and marine Mykhailo Dianov. The club also organised the treatment and rehabilitation of Vitalii Shumei, who was seriously wounded near Avdiivka, in Barcelona, and soldier and Shakhtar's fan Yevhen Larchenko in Israel, and is helping with the rehabilitation of its player's brother, Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier Bohdan Kush. The club will donate UAH 22 million of the proceeds from the friendly match with Tottenham to support and assist Ukrainians affected by the war. In addition, since the beginning of the year, the club has donated more than UAH 9 million to help the military, civilians, and children.
