For 71 years, Oxygen-Compressor Shop has been operating stably at Zaporizhstal, an important energy subdivision, the team of which provides the plant with air separation products.
The operation of any metallurgical production is impossible without energy resources. In the manufacture of steel products, both electricity, natural gas, oxygen, and materials or mixtures that are rarely used in everyday life are used. OCP is one of the subdivisions responsible for the stable supply of such resources to the shops of the plant.

Oxygen-Compressor shop began operating in May 1953
Oxygen, compressed air, nitrogen, argon, autogenous oxygen and much more: it will be difficult to list all the products produced by OCP, but they are used literally in every subdivision.
In addition, OCP also produces medical oxygen certified by the Ministry of Health. Currently, its production volumes are somewhat less than during covid. However, even now there is a high need for it – during the war, Zaporizhstal has already shipped almost 5,500 tons of medical oxygen to hospitals in Ukraine.
"First of all, our work must be stable and uninterrupted. Therefore, we systematically perform all the necessary maintenance and repairs of units. In particular, last year, the air in-shop manifold was almost completely replaced with the installation of new shut-off valves, which significantly increased the reliability of the workshop," says Oleksiy NABOKA, Head of the shop.
Working during the war obliges you to pay special attention to safety – both people and equipment. Proximity to the front carries the risk of shelling at any time, sometimes even before an air raid siren is announced. Therefore, to protect the PRU-60 apparatus staff, a backup control panel for the installation was installed in one of the bomb shelters and an additional computer was connected to the main system. Now, in the event of a threat, workers have the opportunity to go to the shelter and protect themselves without stopping one of the most important units of the shop. In addition, key elements of energy units are equipped with additional protection.
"The work of our subdivision is stable – thanks to people. Operators, machinists, electricians, mechanics – the whole team is a team that works with concentration and professionalism, understanding its role in a large production chain. Thank you to everyone who remains at their workplaces today and conscientiously does their job. Thank you to those who are now defending us at the frontline – we are waiting for your return. Let's keep working!" Oleksiy Naboka adds.
