At Metinvest’s Kryvyi Rih mining and processing plants (Northern, Central, and Inhulets GZKs), a training programme continues for specialised medical and firefighting teams. In October, 50 comprehensive training sessions took place across various structural divisions.
Currently, medical and firefighting teams are active in every production shift, with employees regularly honing their skills through practical exercises. These comprehensive training sessions follow a schedule. First aid training, including follow-up sessions, is provided by instructors from the Ukrainian Red Cross Society. Firefighting teams are trained by internal coaches from fire and rescue services. Firefighting team members practise containment and early extinguishing, with the use of primary fire-fighting equipment to prevent the spread of fire and mitigate the negative consequences of incidents.
“The plants have a response system in place for assisting those affected by wartime incidents,” explained Maksym SOVENKO, Chief Specialist in Occupational Safety, Fire Safety, and Environmental Protection. “We regularly conduct training for our teams on extinguishing fires and providing pre-medical aid. These systematic exercises help teams test their skills, fill knowledge gaps, practise their emergency response, and better coordinate with colleagues. These teams are trained to act appropriately in emergency situations, including those caused by military action. However, they are prohibited from putting their lives are at risk, such as in cases of structural collapse, heavy smoke, or rapid fire spread.”
Between August and the end of the year, 158 training sessions are planned: 79 for firefighting units and 79 for first aid teams.
