Nina Borysova: “In wartime, it does not matter whether it is a female or a male speciality”

Bunker operator at the Svyato-Varvarinskaya concentrating factory, Nina Borysova, is one of the old-timers of the enterprise; she has been working there since 2011. After graduating from college, she did an internship there and decided to stay.

For a long time she was a weigher, but with the beginning of the war she mastered a new profession. Before her, a man worked at this site. But when he switched to a forklift because there were not enough people, Nina, among other women, replaced men in their jobs.

"I used to weigh cars, there was a lot of paperwork: reports, waybills, data transfer to the dispatcher. Now, the specifics have changed. My responsibilities include shipping enrichment waste. You need to be very careful not to overload the machine. Or, on the contrary, load it not to its full capacity,” Nina BORYSOVA shares the secrets of her new profession.

On the woman's hand there are three bunkers where three mining dump trucks can be loaded at the same time. Therefore, you have to work in a mode of enhanced responsibility and show pinpoint precision. If according to the tonnage, 30 tonnes should be loaded, that is exactly how much rock needs to be “filled.” Despite the automatic control, it is necessary to monitor the loading progress, as situations vary. Sometimes the automation can fail, and you have to operate it manually. And it is important to press the “Stop” button in time, otherwise the dump truck will be covered with rock.

"Before the war, bunker operators were mostly men. Now, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a female or a male speciality. In difficult times for an enterprise, you don’t pay attention to such things. The most important thing is that you like the work and that it brings you pleasure,” Nina admits.

She got used to the new place quickly. The small room has an ascetic atmosphere. A control panel, sensors, a telephone, a table and a chair - that’s all the equipment of a private office. The work shift lasts 12 hours. But, despite her fatigue, Nina always looks neat, her hands are freshly manicured, and light make-up emphasises her natural features. A woman remains attractive even in work clothes. This helps to put you in a better mood and raise the spirits, which are much needed.
