It's never too late: a resident of Zaporizhzhia masters a new profession and receives professional education, having 20 years of experience

Nazar Psariuk from Zaporizhstal is sure that everyone can retrain and get a new profession.

At present, employers, being under the conditions of staff shortage, are turning more to the retraining of their employees to train knowledgeable specialists at their own corporate training centres The expertise of experienced industrial mentors, combined with practical experience in real production, gives the desired result.

Every year, Zaporizhstal's Staff Development Department trains hundreds of employees for a second profession and upgrades their skills. Nazar Psariuk, a furnace helper, also took the opportunity to acquire a new profession and professional education.

After receiving non-industrial vocational education about 20 years ago, Nazar started searching for a job. At that time, his brother was already working at Zaporizhstal, in the Steelmaking Shop, and he set an example for Nazar.

"I knew well the specifics of work in the Steelmaking Shop, and I wanted to become a steelmaker too. But back then, due to lack of professional education, I didn't get a chance to. I was still hired, but for a different position," says Nazar.

Later, when the pulverised coal injection plant was installed at the enterprise, Nazar transferred to the Production Preparation Department. But all the time he was working in this area, Nazar did not give up thinking about working as a steelmaker.

This year, he entered Zaporizhzhia Metallurgical College and is studying with a specialization in "Steel and Ferroalloys Production" And the opportunity to work at the open-hearth furnace came even faster than he expected.

"The enterprise was just recruiting employees for retraining for a second profession in the steelmaking shop, and I immediately accepted the offer. The advantages are obvious: higher earnings, guaranteed exemption from military service, earlier retirement, and other benefits due to employment in a high-risk occupation Besides, I have always wanted to work as a steelmaker, and now I had this opportunity, so I took it and decided to try my hand at it," continues Nazar.

Nazar has now completed his internship and started working independently. During his training, he managed to work at each furnace of subdivision and felt the difference in their nature, as the steelmakers themselves say.

"Sure enough, this job is not for everybody. You need to really love it, not be afraid of difficulties, and then you will definitely succeed. And colleagues and mentors will help you master the profession," added the employee of Zaporizhstal.

Nazar's work, ability to quickly pick up new knowledge, and his hard work are also recognized by his colleagues.

"He is a very good worker. He is responsible, willingly takes on any assignment, and fulfills it to the best of his ability It is clear that he is really interested in this work and wants to learn how to do it well. I am sure that Nazar will become a good steelworker, and in the future, he will teach the younger generation of steelworkers himself," says Serhii BASTIUCHENKO, furnace helper and Nazar's mentor.
