Proactive Youth of Metinvest’s Central Iron Ore Organised a City Greening Initiative

Each year, as part of the municipal improvement programme, employees of Metinvest’s mining and processing plants traditionally carry out maintenance on the areas assigned to their respective departments, upgrade industrial sites and recreational zones around administrative buildings, and maintain lawns and flowerbeds.

The youth group of Metinvest’s Central Iron Ore went beyond the plant’s industrial site and took part in a tree‑planting initiative on Roman Shukhevych Street in Pokrovskyi District.

The launch of this worthwhile initiative – the greening of their home city and neighbourhood – dates back to last spring. At that time, activists from the plant’s youth movement began landscaping the area near the building housing the Recruitment, Training and Personnel Development Department, as well as the Central Iron Ore's Museum of Labour Glory and Youth Hub. This is where ten young chestnut trees were planted and have since taken root.

Last Saturday, a further eleven chestnut trees, eleven birch trees, and three rowan trees were planted along the newly established avenue. In addition to greening the area, where young people traditionally gather for events and leisure, the plant’s employees also carried out a spring clean‑up: they cleared away undergrowth, removed last year’s leaves, and paid particular attention to cleaning dirt from pedestrian paths and avenues.

“A clean environment reflects a clear conscience, and greenery is not only beauty, but also our health. Each such initiative, every community clean‑up day, not only improves our surroundings but also encourages us to adopt a more responsible attitude towards nature. Admittedly, due to the full-scale war, the number of community clean-up initiatives has declined. However, attention to the greening of our enterprise has by no means diminished. Because this is where we work, and this is where we see our future. Thank you to every participant for their contribution,” noted Illia SHOSTOV, Youth Leader of the Central Iron Ore.

“Today, I am taking part for the first time in an environmental initiative organised at the plant. The beautiful, sunny weather was a particular delight. At last, spring has come! We rallied together with colleagues, worked, had a laugh, and did something useful. Chestnuts bloom very beautifully in spring, so we planted and dreamed of seeing them already grown and blooming. They will bring us joy as we make our way to our youth hub. The atmosphere was upbeat, which made the community clean‑up an entirely enjoyable experience!" shared his impressions, Artem PETSELIUK, an apprentice electrician in the Networks and Substations Shop at Central Iron Ore.
