Environment Day: Employees of Metinvest Iron Ore Plants Participated in Spring Community Clean-ups

Employees of Metinvest Iron Ore plants in Kryvyi Rih held traditional spring clean-up events. They tidied up in and around the workshops and joined events organised as part of the city's Environment Day.

Throughout April, employees of Metinvest Iron Ore plants carried out improvement works on plant territories, cleaning and landscaping Each workshop independently determined the scope and types of work and tried to perform them in the best possible way. Special attention was paid to the roads used for commuting, flower beds near administrative buildings, and the general cleanliness of the environment.

There were many people willing to take part in the community clean-ups. For example, in the Viber chat of the automotive shop at Northern Iron Ore, as soon as a message was posted about the intention to hold a clean-up, the active reaction of colleagues exceeded all the organisers's expectations.

"Even drivers who live quite far away, in villages outside the city, came along on their day off. In just a few hours, the bus drivers and shift workers cleaned the lawns, removed dry leaves and spruce branches, swept the main road that runs along the automotive shop, and whitewashed the kerbs. Everything immediately began to look neat. While working, they joked around, recalled peaceful times and fun picnics that the teams used to organise after friendly collaborative work. That doesn't happen now because the war is ongoing, and 13 people from our team alone are currently fighting. Their work is much more difficult and important. However, such simple events as collective clean-ups unite people and strengthen their spirit," says Oleksandr REVA, head of motorcade No. 1 of the automotive shop at Northern Iron Ore.

Meanwhile, the youth from Central Iron Ore joined the important work of landscaping. Active employees planted an alley of ten chestnuts. The location was not chosen by chance.

"We planted near the building where the department of recruitment, training and development of personnel is located," says Iliia SHOSTOV, leader of the youth centre at Central Iron Ore. "Our youth hub is also housed there, where we gather from time to time for events and leisure activities. Along the building and the road, we planted young trees to renew the alley and add even more greenery around the plant."

Seedlings were provided to the young activists by employees from the landscaping section of the plant's repair and maintenance shop. Ten boys and girls took part in the planting, including a crane operator from the crushing plant, Yulia PODOLYAN:

"It seems to me that planting trees is one of the most beautiful things on earth, and I was glad to join this initiative. We rallied together with colleagues, worked, had a laugh, and did something useful. Chestnuts bloom very beautifully in spring, so we planted and dreamed of seeing them already grown and blooming. They will bring joy to us when we go to our youth hub, as well as to everyone who visits our enterprise. I would be pleased if there were more such initiatives."

Taking care of their residential area, Ingulets veterans from Ingulets Iron Ore went out to improve the alley of the 200th anniversary of Kryvyi Rih, where they worked near the memorial sign dedicated to internationalist soldiers.

"A few phone calls – and people with enthusiasm and inventory are already in the process. The result of our work is flowering flower beds, weeded and clean, with trees and shrubs dug around and pruned. We do it as if it were near our own homes, with love and care. We look after the monuments and the places where Ingulets residents and visitors to the residential area like to stroll," said Nadiia KOVALENKO, chairwoman of the Council of Veterans at Ingulets Iron Ore.
