Active and caring youth of Central GOK of Metinvest Group initiated a volunteer campaign in support of the company's labour veterans. Specialists brought firewood, helped with household chores and talked to senior colleagues.
Together with the Veteran charity foundation, the youth leaders of the plant visited pensioners living in the villages of Verabove, Gleyuvatka and Nedayvoda, and shipped them more than 20 cubic metres of firewood.
"We support our CGOK traditions – to help the older generation, to show respect for those who have made a significant contribution to the formation of our plant with their many years of work," said Illia SHOSTOV, chairman of the Central GOK's Youth Board. "Commitment to such values helps to unite generations and pass on valuable experience and knowledge. We believe that such initiatives are a key element of the stable and successful development of the enterprise. So we do not stop, but resolutely move towards our goals. We have planned a lot of good deeds, and the active youth of the plant has the desire and resources to implement them".
The tradition of visiting veterans has existed at the company for about 10 years. Young employees come to senior colleagues, help them solve household issues, visit them on anniversaries, New Year and professional holidays. And during the coronavirus pandemic, the company's volunteers delivered humanitarian kits with food and hygiene products to veterans. They support it even now, during the war.
"Meetings with our veterans are always long-awaited and especially warm for me personally. Our senior colleagues are an example of many years of experience with which they inspire us, young people. This is not the first time I have participated in such volunteer events. I was happy to join today's initiative. Such help to pensioners is another opportunity to express gratitude for their important work. We are always ready to provide support to the people to whom we owe our success today," said Denys SHEVTSOV, a youth activist at Central GOK.
It is important for labour veterans to know that they are remembered and valued for their former work at the enterprise. They share their memories and life stories with young people, talk about the formation of enterprises, and remember their colleagues.
"I am very grateful for the help of the Veteran chary foundation, the administration of the enterprise and the youth labour force of Central GOK. It's so nice that I couldn't help crying. Nowadays, such support is very much needed. I am never forgotten. She worked in the workshop of electricity grids and substations for 30 years. I remember the company and the team with nostalgia. Now young people are visiting me. It's nice that such good and important traditions live at our GOK!" Valentyna PLATONOVA, a labour veteran of Central GOK, shared her impressions.
