The youth of Metinvest's consolidated ore mining and processing plant: A pillar of support for the state and the future of Kryvbas

Today, Metinvest’s consolidated ore mining and processing plant employs around 2,000 workers under the age of 35. In the early days of the full-scale war, these young specialists got united to help displaced people and support Ukraine’s Defence Forces. Now, Metinvest employees continue their efforts, regularly donating blood for those in need, and supporting both civilians and the military. They remain dedicated to learning, developing, and sustaining the economy of both the country and the region through their work. On International Youth Day, we take a closer look at the lives of specialists from Northern, Central, and Ingulets GZKs.

Before the war, youth organisations were engaged in activities outside of their regular work, including supporting labor veterans, participating in sports, assisting children’s institutions, and organising charity events. Since February 2022, the young employees at Metinvest's Kryvyi Rih iron ore and processing plants have had to mature quickly. Following Russia’s terrorist invasion, some took up arms to defend their homeland, while others regrouped to support civilians and the military. They worked at aid collection points for displaced people and defenders, wove camouflage nets, and helped assemble humanitarian aid at Metinvest’s humanitarian hub in Kryvyi Rih.

During the first months of the war the hub operated 24/7, providing essential aid to vulnerable populations in Kryvyi Rih and 14 communities across the Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Kherson, and Donetsk regions. Volunteers gathered food, baby supplies, hygiene products, and warm clothing for the military and civilians alike.

Today, despite the ongoing war, Metinvest’s youth in Kryvyi Rih continue to look confidently toward the future. In addition to their main jobs, these specialists actively participate in corporate training on leadership, communication skills, analytical work approaches, and even tactical medicine. Some are also pursuing new qualifications at the Metinvest Polytechnic University.

The youth also make time for leisure, enjoying activities like intellectual games and sports. For example, employees of Central GZK play darts and chess, and during the season, they organise group bike rides. Recently, to celebrate Metallurgist and Miner’s Day, the Youth Union organised a scenic bike tour.

The route was designed not only to test the cyclists' endurance but also to let them appreciate the beauty of the landscape.

This time, the group cycled to Tytynsky Pond near the village of Romanivka, where they paused to take in the breathtaking scenery and rest. This area was also a filming location for the movie "Chervonyi" (the Red) a few years ago. The group also visited the Red Bridge, home to Ukraine’s tallest and only rock climbing wall.

Today, Metinvest’s youth have adapted to wartime conditions and continue to live life to the fullest while contributing to the workforce. The GZK’s youth community is growing, with new members who are socially responsible, compassionate, and determined. Confident in the future of Kryvyi Rih and Ukraine, they are becoming a true pillar of support for the nation.
