The workforce of Metinvest’s Consolidated Iron Ore is undergoing the video training programme “Protecting Life Under Wartime Conditions”. By November, a total of 8,627 employees will have completed the training. The programme is delivered during shift handover meetings, briefings, and routine workplace meetings.

This war has created new risks that everyone must be prepared to face. For this reason, in 2026 the HSE Directorate of Metinvest’s Consolidated Iron Ore intensified its focus on safety issues associated with wartime threats.

The video training programme was launched on 15 July. In total, 1,110 training sessions have been scheduled, covering 8,627 employees across all categories, including managers. The programme is expected to be completed in November.

The training programme was developed by a working group comprising the company’s specialists. Its purpose is to provide employees with practical knowledge and clear response procedures that will help them act appropriately in hazardous situations and reduce risks to life and health.

Six Scenarios, One Key Principle: Knowing How to Respond

During the training, employees review six key areas:

▪️ how to prepare for potential wartime risks and set up a safe place;

▪️ how to respond during shelling, whether at work, at home, outdoors, or while travelling;

▪️ what to do in the event of structural damage, a fire, or becoming trapped under debris;

▪️ how to behave upon discovering explosive hazards or suspicious objects;

▪️ how to move safely in areas affected by landmine hazards and the threat of drone attacks;

▪️ how to maintain essential daily living arrangements in the event of disruptions to electricity, heating, water supply, or communications.

Particular emphasis is placed on preparing for potentially hazardous situations. Employees are reminded of the importance of identifying safe locations in advance, knowing the whereabouts of shelters, maintaining an adequate supply of water, and keeping an emergency go-bag packed and ready for use.

The training goes beyond simply watching a video. Following each session, employees have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss various scenarios, and provide feedback. This approach helps draw attention to the practical aspects of safety and reinforces the knowledge and skills gained during the training.
