One year ago, our lives changed dramatically. War broke out in Ukraine, as Russia launched a full-scale invasion. The enemy gave us just a few days to last, but what seemed like a fatal confrontation for our country turned out to be the beginning of the aggressor’s inevitable defeat
Over the past year, we have come a long way and grown stronger. We have become unbreakable, like Azovstal, often through pain and loss, but always thanks to courage and dedication.
Metinvest Group found itself in the thick of events, with the first explosions in Mariupol. We immediately stopped production to keep the city safe and prepared bomb shelters as much as possible to protect people. Unfortunately, our humanitarian actions were significantly hampered by the occupiers. Even so, we helped thousands of Mariupol residents to start a new life in a new place.
Over time, we have learned to work under constant risk, with disrupted logistics and in difficult economic conditions. Metinvest has been and remains a reliable pillar for Ukraine and Ukrainians.
In the early days of the war, our shareholder Rinat Akhmetov instructed us to give our all for Ukraine’s victory. The Group was put on a war footing and started producing high-quality armoured steel for body armour to provide our soldiers with the best protection. We use Metinvest steel to make mobile dugouts and field stoves. Together with the Steel Front defence initiative, the Group is supplying the Ukrainian military with drones, equipment, vehicles and tactical gear.
Metinvest also launched the Saving Lives humanitarian project. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have already received essential items, medicines and food packages. We are equipping shelters and helping with prosthetics and psychological rehabilitation.
Indeed, the year of war has changed us significantly. We used to be happy that our steel was chosen for building ships, bridges and majestic structures. And now we are proud that Metinvest steel is saving the lives of soldiers, ensuring their comfort on the front line and guarding Ukraine’s borders. In peaceful life, our team was a pillar of Ukraine’s economic stability. Now, our people are fighting for the independence of their homeland on the front line and at the rear
Yes, we did not choose war, but it is our choice to fight for freedom, self-identity and the future that victory will bring
Glory to Ukraine!
