At Metinvest Polytechnic Technical University, specialists are trained who combine technical expertise with managerial competencies and, already during their studies, work on real production challenges. A compelling example of this approach is the story of master’s programme graduate Ivan Tkachenko, an engineer in the Engineering and Construction Site Management Department at Metinvest Sichstal.
This year, Ivan is among the university’s fifty master’s graduates. Prior to enrolment, he already possessed a strong technical background and professional experience; however, he decided to strengthen his managerial skill set. Having chosen the management track and the educational programme “Project Management of Change in the Mining and Steelmaking Business”, he acquired knowledge that he now applies directly in his work on large‑scale industrial projects.
“I work for a company that implements very large‑scale strategic projects. Before enrolling at Metinvest Polytechnic, I already had a solid technical education, but I lacked managerial skills. That is precisely why I chose to pursue studies in management. Today, the new knowledge is proving extremely helpful in my work. I am currently working on the construction of a thickening complex at the Northern Iron Ore. The project is now entering an active phase, and I am responsible for the electrical engineering scope, including the installation and commissioning of electrical and communications systems at the site,” said Ivan TKACHENKO, a graduate of the university.

He is currently involved in the implementation of the thickening complex construction project at the Northern Iron Ore – one of the company’s key production facilities. His area of responsibility includes organising electrical engineering support and coordinating on‑site operations, which requires both in‑depth technical expertise and strong managerial skills.
At Metinvest Polytechnic, it is emphasised that a practice‑oriented approach forms the foundation of the educational process. Students work with real‑life industry cases, undertake practical training at production facilities, and gain experience that they can immediately apply in their professional activities. This format enables graduates to integrate quickly into production processes and to take part in the implementation of complex engineering solutions from the very early stages of their careers.
