Modern learning of mining engineers at Metinvest Polytechnic: international experience and new approaches to mining

Today, the learning of mining engineers goes far beyond the traditional understanding of the profession. Modern mining combines engineering, environmental responsibility, working with secondary resources and the implementation of innovative solutions. It is precisely this approach to education that Metinvest Polytechnic Technical University develops, integrating international experience and modern scientific practices into the teaching and learning process.

Students and lecturers from the Department of Mining at Metinvest Polytechnic together with colleagues from Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University attended a guest lecture by Professor Carsten Drebenstedt from the Technical University Bergacademie Freiberg (Germany). The topic of the meeting was "Non-traditional sources and methods of raw material extraction – challenges and successful cases".

At the same time, this collaboration has set an example of educational cooperation between Ukrainian universities. Metinvest Polytechnic and Zhytomyr Polytechnic are developing a partnership in the field of engineering education, exchanging experience and jointly involving international experts in the educational process to ensure that students have access to up-to-date knowledge and global practices of the industry.

Ivan SAKHNO, Head of the Department of Mining at Metinvest Polytechnic, notes:

"The admissions campaign is underway, and we are inviting young people to enrol, offering educational programmes at bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as at the level of a junior bachelor’s degree without the need to sit the National Multi-subject Test. We are sure that today it is important to talk to young people about modern mining – to show how the mining industry is changing, what technologies are shaping its future and what engineering challenges it poses to the new generation of specialists. After all, behind these changes is the demand for engineers who will work with the resources, technologies and industrial solutions of tomorrow.

So, modern mining is no longer just about mines and open pits, but about technology, innovation, and responsible use of resources. That is why Metinvest Polytechnic creates an environment for students where they can learn about international experience, communicate with leading experts and see how the industry of the future actually works. For young people, this is a chance to gain an up-to-date knowledge, get involved in global changes within the industry, and become engineers who will create new technological solutions for modern industry.
