First aid training is an essential element of public safety. Having someone nearby who can properly respond and assist in the first minutes of an injury or health crisis until the ambulance arrives significantly increases the chances of survival and successful recovery.
All Metinvest enterprises regularly train their staff in first aid. This is especially important today, as the usual risks are compounded by the additional risks brought about by the war. Recently, with Oleksandr Myronenko at the helm, employees of Metinvest's Operations Directorate have been learning life-saving skills. Professional instructors from the Ukrainian Red Cross Society have conducted a six-hour training for them.
The First Responder program is designed for employees of government agencies, such as the National Police, State Emergency Service, and Armed Forces of Ukraine, whose job responsibilities include first aid. These skills will also prove valuable for those working in the mining and metals industry.
In particular, the Operations Directorate employees learned how to properly assess the scene of an incident, examine the victim to determine their condition, identify the cause of the injury, and provide assistance for bleeding, fractures, wounds, burns, airway obstructions, and other emergencies.
The participants practiced their skills on mannequins and on each other, simulating various scenarios that could occur in everyday life, at work, or due to enemy shelling – from heart attacks and loss of consciousness to severe polytrauma. They learned how to administer first aid to both adults and young children,as there are specific nuances involved.
Following the training, 24 participants received certificates and are now fully equipped with the skills to save lives.
