The Cold Rolling Shop is one of the key subdivisions of Zaporizhstal, where the final result of the entire production chain is generated. On the eve of the 87th anniversary, the shop operates in the usual wartime rhythm: production tasks are performed, quality is controlled at all stages and shipment of products to consumers is ensured.
The shop includes 15 departments and sections, each of which is responsible for its own stage of production. In general, the shop provides a full cycle of cold-rolled steel processing: from pickling and rolling to heat treatment, skin passing, packaging and shipment.
The basis of production is modern units, including the continuous pickling line BTA-4, designed according to European environmental standards and put into operation in 2014. The shop has rolling and skin pass mills that ensure the necessary rolled steel characteristics according to customer requirements.

Of course, each process is performed under the close supervision of experienced professionals. The shop employs specialists in various areas: mill operators, hydraulic technicians, crane operators, electricians, mechanics, process engineers. Interaction between production sites directly affects the result, because each stage is part of a single production process.
"My job is to control the process of cold rolling, analyse defects, and respond to production deviations. We are constantly working to improve the quality of rolled products: we register indicators, analyse information and make corrective measures right in the process. I consciously chose this profession, studied in this direction and, having joined the team, I well understood what responsibility rests on us," says Denys STOLIAROV, shift foreman of the rolling department.
The operation of each site requires accuracy, compliance with technological regimes and quick response to production challenges. That is why the experience and professional training of employees play a key role in the processes.
"There is no repetitiveness in our work – each day has its own tasks, its own production situations. This requires constant attention and quick inclusion in the process, flexibility and adaptability. At the same time, it gives you the opportunity to develop, gain experience and better understand the technology," said Serhii KRYHIN, senior foreman of the roller grinding section.
A separate role in the production cycle is played by the heat treatment department, where the required steel properties are achieved before further processing and shipment to consumers. The quality of finished products depends on the accuracy of temperature conditions.
"We are responsible for the processes that directly affect the final result. We control temperature, monitor the stability of the equipment operation. The steel quality and the achievement of production plans depend on this. Therefore, even in difficult conditions, we work as focused as possible to ensure the required level," said Vitalii BOIKO, shift foreman of the heat treatment department.
Due to the war, production volumes decreased: if earlier up to four thousand tonnes of rolled products were shipped daily, now it is less than three thousand tonnes. At the same time, the subdivision maintains the stability of processes and fulfils orders for domestic and foreign markets.
Currently, 140 employees of the shop defend Ukraine in the ranks of the Armed Forces. Their colleagues at the plant continue to work, ensuring production and supporting the economy.
