My point of support 2/29/2024 Read 5 min

From Kamet Steel's locksmith shop to the frontline of the war

A guy with arms as strong as steel, a look of decision in his eyes and a sincere, kind smile. Every day, together with his comrades-in-arms, he brings a peaceful dawn closer for Ukraine. However, for two years now, he has been meeting his own dawn far away from his hometown and family.

Before the war, Mykyta worked as a rolling stock repairman at the Kamet Steel's Railway Transport Department, where he repaired complex mechanisms and earned the respect of his colleagues for his responsible attitude to work. But from the first days of the war, his life changed dramatically. At the end of February 2022, he was mobilised into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Having no combat experience, he sincerely wanted to defend his homeland, so he quickly mastered the military. And he has no regrets about his choice. He believes and knows that everything will be fine and that Ukraine will win after all. And, of course, he dreams of returning home to a peaceful life, where his family and friends are waiting. They are the strong motivation for a warrior to fight further in order to protect what is most precious.

Another real ray of light in the war for Mykyta is the help of Metinvest and colleagues from Kamet Steel Caring workers of UZT collect and donate funds to military, because they understand how important it is for the guys on the front line to feel their support.

“The money raised was used to purchase a drone and thermal imaging devices, for which the guys and I are very grateful to my colleagues from Kamet Steel,” says Mykyta. "From the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation I received an armour vest, a helmet, medicine and food. Such strong support really gives strength and motivation to move on. And we, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, will definitely protect Ukraine. I would like to tell people: appreciate those who are nearby, appreciate every minute with your loved ones and family. Time is a real treasure, but everyone has very little of it. I wish that, despite the war, people would smile and simply enjoy life. And we will protect and cover you – our reliable rear."

Stay strong, defender! We are proud of you and look forward to your return with Victory every day! Glory to Ukraine!
