Metinvest Polytechnic lecturers together with Kamet Steel representatives took part in the leaders' brainstorming session "Green Managers: Personnel for the Ukraine's future green recovery." The event was organised by the Office of Sustainable Solutions in cooperation with the World Association of Environmental Professionals at the National Technical University of Ukraine "Dnipro Polytechnic."
In today's world of sustainable development, every step towards change has its fundamental transformations. And changes that start with education can be key ones. Thus, the leaders' brainstorming meeting was attended by lecturers, scientists, students of educational institutions of Prydniprovia, as well as practitioners involved in environmental protection at enterprises.
Metinvest Group was represented by Dmytro Pikarenya and Nataliia Maksymova, lecturers of the HSE Department at Metinvest Polytechnic University, and Alyona Kopiyka and Oksana Drobot, employees of Kamet Steel's Environmental Protection Department.
The main discussion focused on the role and competencies of modern green managers. The participants discussed urgent issues of environmental education, requirements for the level of knowledge, mastery of environmental tools, as well as knowledge of the legal and regulatory systems, including international standards, required by modern business from specialists.
During the event, a survey was conducted to determine the expectations of employers, local governments, regional military administrations,8 employers in united territorial communities, educators of higher education institutions, and students. The issues discussed included environmental reforms, wartime reconstruction, waste issues and solutions, environmental impact assessment and environmental protection assessment, and international experience of green transition.
"Following our discussion, we hope to offer recommendations and suggestions for updating educational programmes for training environmental specialists and green managers. This will be an important step in increasing the employability of graduates of environmental and ecological specialities and will contribute to sustainable economic development, greening of production and preservation of ecosystems," commented Dmytro PIKARENYA, Professor of Metinvest Polytechnic.
Such meetings and dialogues between representatives of education, business, government and the public clearly show that the path to a green future begins with education, and this process is already in full swing. For applicants who are just choosing their professional path, it is worth paying attention to the promising field of environmental protection technologies.
