The new training course has been implemented for drilling rig operators at Ingulets Iron Ore Mining and Enrichment Works of Metinvest Group. Former SBH specialists are currently training on the latest mining equipment from EPIROC.
Training takes place directly at workplaces, specifically at the quarry, allowing miners to use their acquired machine operating skills more efficiently. The classes are conducted by a certified instructor from EPIROC Ukraine. Apart from the theoretical part, every specialist is obligated to complete 60 hours of practical training. The operators get acquainted with all aspects of operating the new equipment, learn how to control it and its specification, and master the maintenance procedures.
"The world is moving forward, and the process of replacing old SBHs with new ones is inevitable. Even now we already have a new type of machine at the plant. They are modern, mobile, more productive and much more comfortable for the operators. The theoretical part was learnt quickly, but as for the practical part, it was more challenging: it takes time to get used to the new type of controller. It's like switching from a car to a plane! Despite the fact that the process of drilling follows the same concept as in old SBHs, the approach to control is entirely different, and it requires some time to practice. Our instructor pays a lot of attention to analysing various possible situations during the equipment operation. We break them down in detail. This makes learning effective and meaningful," adds Andrii MAKSYMENKO, a drilling rig operator at InGOK.
Today, five operators from InGOK are mastering new skills. After completing the course, they will receive a certificate of professional development.
"This training is a professional growth for our employees. It also solves the problem of staff shortage caused by mobilisation. On-the-job training in a quarry has its benefits: this approach ensures a high level of professional training for employees because it allows them to immediately fill gaps in learning and find a solution to problematic issues that may arise during training. We are living in a time when versatile skills and a wide range of competencies are highly valuable. There are individuals who aim for personal growth and development within our organization," concluded Dmytro SKRYPNYCHENKO, an acting head of drilling rig site at InGOK.
