Point Of Invincibility With Model Bomb Shelter Operates In Zaporizhzhia Lyceu

The public association "Green Center Metinvest Zaporizhzhia" has helped to equip a bomb shelter in Zaporizhzhia lyceum No. 23.

A point of invincibility, which has been recently opened in the third building of Zaporizhzhia lyceum No. 23 in Kosmichnyi district, is the result of joint efforts of the city authorities and public organizations. It has a buffet equipped with a wood-burning potbelly stove, electric kettles and a microwave, where one can cook or heat water and food if necessary. It houses a room for charging gadgets, a recreation room for people with limited mobility and the elderly, equipped with cots with mattresses and blankets, and a mother and baby room with changing tables, diapers, swaddles and baby food.

But what is especially impressive is a real bomb shelter with a reinforced ceiling - clean,  newly renovated and equipped with all the essentials. It has a separate bathroom with cold and hot water. There is a special huge tank with drinking water. Here you can have tea and use internet. There are sockets, generator, Wi-Fi and first aid kits. As it should be, there are two exits. And there is no smell of mustiness, dampness or paint. Simply exemplary!

A PLACE OF STRENGTH

"Points of invincibility" are powered and heated spaces with internet access. Here one can drink hot tea and warm up. They help all Ukrainians survive the winter while Russian aggressors destroy energy facilities.

According to Volodymyr Mayorov, director of Zaporizhzhia Academic Lyceum No. 23, the bomb shelter is the most popular in this "Point of Invincibility" that has been operating for about three weeks. So far, up to fifty people have come to the shelter at the same time. It is available to everyone. The public association "Green Center Metinvest Zaporizhzhia" helped to equip the bomb shelter.

"When equipping the"Point of Invincibility", we secured funding from different programs. In particular, we participated in the project "Safe School" under the auspices of the public association "Green Center Metinvest Zaporizhzhia". The grant we won enabled us to equip the bomb shelter," Volodymyr MAYOROV said, "the "Point of Invincibility" was set up thanks to, among other things, the program of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine in Zaporizhzhia region and the support of the city authorities. In total, it can accommodate about three hundred people, including 132 people in the bomb shelter (sitting).

"Green Center Metinvest Zaporizhzhia" provided linoleum, paint, gas burners, ledlamps, strip lights, gas burners, large water tanks with pumps and special mechanical pumps to equip the bomb shelter."

"Now the main thing is safety. We had started cooperating with the lyceum in equipping the bomb shelter even before the "Point of Invincibility" was set up here. The shelter was a bit neglected, the floor needed repair. And there are really few shelters in such a good condition as now. The main thing is that people respond to the air alarm and come here," said Oleksandr BALABA, head of the public association "Green Center Metinvest Zaporizhzhia".

It is worth noting that the 23rd lyceum has been cooperating with "Green Center Metinvest Zaporizhzhia" since 2019 - the educational institution participated in contests held by the public association and won grants. And during the full-scale war, high school students and graduates of the lyceum came to the aid of the hub "Green Center Metinvest Zaporizhzhia" as volunteers. According to Oleksandr Balaba, parents of schoolchildren baked pies, and lyceum students gave them to children of internally displaced persons, trying to surround them with care. Another joint event will be the planting of about thirty maple and thuja trees on the territory of the lyceum. The Head of ZCM also informed about the plans to collaborate with other schools in the city in the field of security and support initiative educational institutions next year.
