First Diplomas Defended at Metinvest Polytechnic

Occupational safety during production tasks is a priority. Kamet-Steel, together with experts from Metinvest Polytechnic, organised two-day training sessions on the top risks of lifting equipment.

The participants were line managers of the plant's divisions. After all, they are the main link between the plant's managers, from whom production tasks are received, and the direct executors – the workforce. That is why it is so important for them to have technical knowledge of the safety of work using lifting mechanisms, to be able to correctly assess possible risks before starting such work and, at the same time, to correctly analyse and provide information to the employees performing the work.

These are the areas that are covered in the two-day training sessions led by experienced trainers from Metinvest Polytechnic University. During the first, theoretical part, participants gain new knowledge about the regulatory framework for organising lifting operations. Presentation and video materials are used in the training process. During fruitful communication with the coach, the trainees complete various test tasks and receive answers to important questions.

The practical part of the training, which takes place at the axle rolling section of the rolling shop, helps to consolidate the knowledge directly on the production site. The trainees have to correctly and thoroughly analyse the preparation of the site for loading and unloading operations, and after they have been carried out with the participation of qualified crane operators and slingmen, they also have to make a step-by-step analysis of the operations and draw the correct conclusions on how to improve their safety.

Sergii Shatov

"The experience of conducting such trainings based on Metinvest's best practices at the company's enterprises proves their effectiveness. The results of tests taken by participants at the beginning and end of the training show that their knowledge increases by an average of 30-40%. This is very important, as safe work, particularly when working with lifting equipment, is one of the company's top priorities. I would like to thank the specialists of the Personnel Training Department and the Health, Safety and Environment Directorate for the excellent organisation of our joint work," said Sergii SHATOV, the coach on top risks when performing lifting operations using lifting equipment, Doctor of Technical Sciences, technical university Metinvest Polytechnic, Department of Life Safety.

Training on the top risks of lifting equipment is ongoing at Kamet-Steel. A total of 200 employees are expected to receive new theoretical and practical knowledge under this programme.

"I am glad to have taken part in this training, as the safe handling of goods with lifting equipment is my area of professional responsibility. It was interesting to work with the experienced coach who helped me to update my knowledge and then consolidate it with practical tasks. I think this will help me in my future work," said Gennadii UDOVIK, production foreman at the rolling shop.
