Steel Front constructs 200 km of fortification structures in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions

Metinvest Group continues to construct fortification structures for the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the frontline as part of Rinat Akhmetov's Steel Front defence initiative. The total length of defence constructions has reached over 200 km.

The construction of engineering and fortification structures is being carried out in cooperation with the military and civil-military administrations in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia areas. In addition to the company's specialists, Metinvest is providing materials and special equipment to construct defence lines to prevent the enemy from advancing.

In total, Metinvest supplied 20.7 cubic metres of timber, 100.3 square metres of geotextiles and mesh to reinforce trenches. The fortification structures were built using 43 "kryivkas" – underground shelters, which the company manufactures using corrugated steel. The defence line will protect personnel, equipment and ammunition from enemy attacks and serve as a shelter for soldiers to rest.

"Defending what is ours is a concept that is broader than job descriptions or regulations. It is an intrinsic need to defend one's right to live and work, to freedom of decision. That is why Metinvest has joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine to create defence lines. We cannot stand aside, because we know that our experience, resources and knowledge can be converted into reliable protection for the defenders and those they protect with their backs – ordinary Ukrainians, each of us. We hope that the fortifications will significantly improve the effectiveness of defence measures," said Oleksandr MYRONENKO, Chief Operating Officer of Metinvest Group.

The work is being carried out jointly with the engineering units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Metinvest is providing all materials and labour free of charge.

Since the onset of the full-scale war, Metinvest Group has spent UAH 6.9 billion to support Ukraine and its citizens, of which more than UAH 3.4 billion has been spent on the needs of the army as part of Steel Front, Rinat Akhmetov's defence initiative. Metinvest Group remains the country's reliable pillar in the fight against the enemy.
