Metinvest Polytechnic Community Actively participates in Events Dedicated to World Day for Safety and Health at Work

An open training on working at height, participation in a thematic flashmob and forum, as well as a presentation of the university's educational programmes at a webinar – Metinvest Polytechnic community celebrated World Day for Safety and Health at Work by participating in a number of important events.

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated annually on 28 April. 'Ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate’ is the slogan of this year. On the occasion of this important day, during the week students, teachers and researchers of Metinvest Polytechnic University took part in a number of events aimed at improving safety at work. Thus, future bachelors and masters of the study programme ‘Occupational Safety’ together with the teachers of the Department of Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection took part in the 'Occupational Safety-2024' forum and in the ‘My Safety Rules’ online flashmob. During the forum, they discussed important issues, including humanitarian demining of territories and new dangers that enterprises have to overcome, organising safe work in war conditions, building an effective occupational health and safety management system, etc.

In today's challenging environment, it is important to have a clear understanding of how to protect employees from the various dangers that exist at every turn, and to provide them with stability and confidence in the future. This is a key task for every company in Ukraine today. At the forum, students of Metinvest Polytechnic learned how to use all possible tools to optimise their work and learned about the experience of the best practitioners in the field of occupational safety.

Also, in cooperation with colleagues from two reputable Ukrainian universities - Kremenchuk Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi National University and National Technical University Dnipro Polytechnic – teachers of Metinvest Polytechnic organised a training on risk-based approach to working at height for students. All aspects, from the legal basis to the best international practices, were examined in depth. Participants not only learned about modern methods and strategies, but also had the opportunity to test them in practical exercises. The training was based on live scenarios and real-life situations, which helped to understand the main aspects of working at height.

Such joint events between universities allow students, teachers and researchers to exchange skills, knowledge, experience and best practices. This helps to broaden the minds and knowledge of the participants to improve the quality of education and research.

The National Research Institute of Industrial Safety and Labour Protection hosted a scientific and practical webinar ‘Peculiarities of legal relations, data processing, ways to improve the state of labour protection in Ukraine’. The teachers of the Department of Occupational Safety and Environmental Protection of Metinvest Polytechnic not only spoke about ways to improve occupational safety training in modern conditions, but also presented the educational programmes of the bachelor's and master's degree programmes, as well as the postgraduate programme, which is being opened for the first time by Metinvest Polytechnic this year.

Firstly, this is a rapidly developing area, and there is always a demand for specialists. Secondly, it allows you to do an important job - to preserve people's health and lives, to actively influence the improvement of working conditions in various industries. And the main thing for the applicants is that there is always an opportunity for improvement and professional growth in this field.
