Artificial Intelligence and Programming for Production Information Support: A Partnership Between Higher Education and the IT Industry in Action

Metinvest Polytechnic Technical University, in collaboration with Dnipro Polytechnic and leading IT companies, has established a platform for practical training in the fields of artificial intelligence and digital manufacturing. Over 150 students, master's candidates, and lecturers engaged with real-world case studies, acquired skills that are already helping to integrate knowledge with business processes, and witnessed how the partnership between education and industry transforms ideas into innovative solutions.

A ceremonial certificate presentation for participants of the Summer School 'Artificial Intelligence and Programming for Production Information Support' was held in Dnipro. The event was organised with the support of the public association 'Dnipro IT Community' and Metinvest Digital, and served as a platform where education met business practice.

More than 150 participants – undergraduate students of the 'Computer Science' educational programme at Metinvest Polytechnic and Dnipro Polytechnic, master's students in IT disciplines, and lecturers – were given the opportunity to work with real case studies from leading IT companies: Sigma Software, Yalantis, SoftServe, DXC Luxoft, EPAM, SANA COMMERCE UKRAINE and METINVEST DIGITAL. The school’s programme covered topics ranging from career development and the labour market to the practical application of AI, DevOps, and the creation of effective APIs for the digitalisation of production.

The organisers emphasised the importance of combining education with practical experience. Pavlo SAHAIDA, Head of Metinvest Polytechnic team, explains,

"The theme of the Summer School – 'AI and Programming for Modern Production' – proved to be exceptionally in demand. We are building a bridge between university lecture halls and the real offices of IT companies. Why? Today, successful digital transformation in business requires not just coders, but versatile professionals – specialists who are equally fluent in the language of code and the language of business, enabling effective support for business processes and large-scale digitalisation projects."

Iryna UDOVYK, Head of Dnipro Polytechnic team, highlights the uniqueness of the school’s format and its practical value:

"The uniqueness of our event, which I hope will now become a regular occurrence, lies in its format. These were intensive lecture-trainings covering a wide range of topics and technologies. Most importantly, the mentors guiding participants during these days were not theorists, but experienced practitioners. These are professionals who solve complex problems every day in leading IT companies. They shared the knowledge and skills they have gained through real projects carried out under the pressure of deadlines and market demands."

Yevhen HOSTISCCHEV, CEO of the public association 'Dnipro IT Community', speaks about the relevance of the AI topic and its impact on the labour market:

"Artificial intelligence is already part of our present. Generative models, AI assistants, and LLM agents are actively reshaping the labour market, as they are already demonstrating the potential to significantly displace human workers in various roles. In the IT sector, those who learn to use these tools first – rather than compete with them – will come out on top."

The Summer School became a vivid example of how effective partnership between Metinvest Polytechnic, Dnipro Polytechnic, and the IT industry creates an environment where students, lecturers, and companies gain practical skills and experience, preparing them to meet the challenges of the modern digital economy. Participants were thrilled with the practical knowledge and skills they gained, which can be immediately applied in their professional activities.
