Half of Generation In-House by 2030. How the War and CBAM Are Changing Metinvest's Energy Strategy – Group COO Oleksandr Myronenko for Forbes

Metinvest Group is investing over US$44 million in its own power sources – gas piston and solar power plants – to safeguard production against wartime energy risks. In April, the Group launched its first gas piston power plants, with more to follow by the summer. The next stage will involve constructing nearly 40 MW of solar power generation. The plan is to meet up to half of the Group’s needs with in-house capacity by 2030. Oleksandr Myronenko, Metinvest’s Chief Operating Officer, spoke to Forbes Ukraine about the investments, the challenges and the energy strategy.Myronenko said that the Group launched its first gas piston power plant on 15 April. In December 2023, terrible news came about the death of the track foreman of the railway transport department, Dmytro Alimov.38-year-old Dmitry Alimov had worked in the railway transport department of Zaporizhstal for almost 14 years. He had begun his career as part of the present Zaporizhzhia Casting and Mechanical Plant. Later, he had joined the RTD team as a track fitter. He had worked hard, studied, and in a few years became a track foreman, responsible for timely and high-quality repairs of railway tracks and turnouts. Metinvest to Supply up to 500 Tonnes of Rolled Product for Main Water Pipeline Construction in Mykolaiv Region

The construction of a main water pipeline continues in Mykolaiv region. Metinvest-SMC is the partner of this important infrastructure project and will supply up to 500 tonnes of steel products.The total length of the future water pipeline will be 67.8 kilometres. It will have a throughput capacity of up to 120,000 cubic meters of water per day, designed to meet the needs of Mykolaiv. Autostrada is the main contractor for the project, while Metinvest-SMC is supplying rebars of various sizes.The work has been phased, beginning in March with the first section (18.4 km in length), followed in April by the start of construction on the second (22.9 km) and third (26.5 km) sections. Kamet-Steel Completes Overhaul of Ladle Furnace No. 1

As part of this year's major overhauls of the BOF shop's main equipment at Kamet-Steel, considerable attention has been paid to enhancing equipment reliability at the steel ladle treatment site. Recently, shop specialists have completed a comprehensive overhaul of ladle furnace No. 1 through coordinated teamwork.The overhaul focused on replacing the water-cooled roof of the ladle furnace – a key unit designed to prevent secondary oxidation of metal during heating and purging with inert gas. The quality of processed steel largely depends on the stable operation of this roof.
