An operator of giant mining machines by trade, he twice joined the ranks of Ukraine's defenders. Having served in the anti-terrorist operation and suffered a severe wound in the Kursk region during the Russian-Ukrainian war, Oleksandr Darchyk returned to his home plant, Metinvest's Northern Iron Ore.

Metinvest’s Consolidated Iron Ore is developing a practical training system for high-risk work activities. It enables employees to practise safe working methods in conditions that closely replicate real-life operating environments. The programme is designed to run for one year: it commenced last month and is scheduled for completion by August 2027. A total of 6,211 employees are expected to complete the training programme. To date, 179 employees have already completed practical skills training. Occupational safety begins with knowledge: employees must understand the hazards that may arise during their work, be familiar with safety requirements, and know how to use protective equipment correctly. However, theory alone is not enough. It is essential for the correct actions to be practised. To support this, five practical training grounds have been established at Metinvest’s Consolidated Iron Ore. Two of these are designed for electrical safety training involving electrical installations

With support from Metinvest, a globally recognised therapeutic method continues to be introduced in Zaporizhzhia. This is what a session with a Hibuki dog looks like at a gymnasium in Zaporizhzhia. The children talk about their mood, choose emotion cards, and then join hands with the psychologist and do a warm-up exercise. At first glance, it seems like a regular children's activity. Yet each exercise serves an important purpose: helping children cope with the experiences brought by the war."Hibuki" means "hug" in Hebrew. It is a plush toy dog with long paws designed for hugging. During the sessions, children learn to recognise their own emotions, talk about them, and find ways to cope with anxiety."He can hug, and you can also brush him. We are given cards, and each of us shows the emotion shown on the card. He calms me down. I don’t feel alone. I hug him, hold him in my arms," says Artem, a student at Gymnasium No. 4.For the children, this was the eighth and final session. Over the c
