To see metallurgy live, feel the production rhythm and try yourself as an engineer – this was the goal of the next laboratory and training session held for Metinvest Politechnic students at Zaporizhstal plant of Metinvest Group.
This time, students majoring in ferrous metallurgy, metallurgy management, rolling and sinter blast furnace production were involved in the participation. During the week, they worked directly at the production sites of the enterprise, performing laboratory tasks, attending master classes and communicating with specialists in various areas. The program of the training session included master classes on quality control, modernization of rolling production and improving the efficiency of the enterprise.

"What I like about studying at Metinvest Politechnic is a modern approach to education. Everything is presented in an accessible way, of course, each issue is considered from different angles. We do not just study theory, but analyse different scientific approaches, discuss, share our experience. This is very engaging in the process and makes it more "lively" and interesting," says Kyrylo PRASLOV, a student of Metinvest Politechnic.

Special attention was paid to digital technologies: students were presented with IT solutions used for the organization, control, health and safety and risk management in production.
"Practice gives you more opportunities to understand how the production process is set up, what awaits you in the profession in the future. For me, the most interesting thing was to see blast furnace production, steelmaking and rolling – I was impressed by the scale and technologies used here. And at the trainings, I received a lot of useful information about innovations in the metallurgical industry, which are planned to be implemented in the future," says Metinvest Polytechnic student Ihor SUKHOPAR.
During laboratory classes, students majoring in rolling worked on cases for technological improvement of sheet rolled steel production processes. And students majoring in ferrous metallurgy studied the principles of designing modern metallurgical shops, taking into account logistics, energy efficiency, and safety. And the general block on the digitalization of metallurgical production helped to understand how modern metallurgical enterprises work – in the mode of constant analysis, quick decisions and team interaction.
"Classroom-only education no longer meets the real challenges of production. We are gradually integrating real production processes into educational programs. Such on-site practical sessions not only allow students to see technology in action, but also help them understand how complex the work of an engineer is, where theory is intertwined with analysis, problem-solving, and team interaction. This, without a doubt, strengthens their professional motivation," said Eduard GRIBKOV, Head of the Department of Metallurgy and Production Organization of Metinvest Politechnic.

The training session at Zaporizhstal is not the first for university students, but each of them opens up new aspects of their future profession. Practical orientation is one of the key principles of training specialists at Metinvest Politechnic. That is why the university continues to work in close partnership with the enterprises of Metinvest Group, so that students can see production not only in theory, but also in practice – with all its challenges, tasks and engineering solutions.
