Pit Stop for Blast Furnace: Kamet Steel Overhauled BF-1M

Ensuring the main equipment's reliability for carrying out production tasks requires prompt decisions and well-coordinated teamwork among the staff. In Kamet Steel's Blast Furnace Shop, a major overhaul of the blast furnace #1M was conducted almost in pit stop mode.

The main task of the overhaul was to restore the refractory lining of the blast furnace air heater unit and replace the water-cooled elements of metal structures and hot blast valves. After all, the efficiency of the blast furnace and the entire shop depends on the smooth operation of the air heater unit.

The specialists also restored the upper and lower loading equipment and the stock house. The main units of opening and closing machines for iron tapholes were repaired at the steel-making area.

"Each employee of the team, which united contractors, specialists from Metinvest-Promservice's metallurgical equipment repair shop and the repair services of Kamet Steel's blast furnace shop, strictly fulfilled the hourly tasks assigned to them, which made it possible to prepare the equipment of blast furnace No. 1M for further stable and reliable operation for the entire technological interval until the next scheduled replacement of the furnace charging device," said Yevhen PODHORNYI, Deputy Head of Blast Furnace Shop for Engineering at Kamet Steel.
