Drive to Help: Zaporizhstal's Young Steelworkers Continue to Support Ukrainians

Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, Zaporizhstal's volunteers have been supporting the defenders, their families, internally displaced persons, and children.

As the volunteer movement of Zaporizhstal's youth organisation is gaining momentum with each passing day with the support of the steelworks, assistance to the defenders remains one of the community's main areas of activity.

The year 2023 was a time of good deeds, selfless assistance, and extraordinary efforts for the plant's volunteers. The result and reward for the important work was the gratitude of the military, in particular, Zaporizhstal's employees who stood up to defend Ukraine on the front line.

Arithmetic of aid

During the year, the plant's youth provided the defenders of Ukraine with about 20 tonnes of flour products and 1,500 litres of home-made drinks. More than 4,000 square metres of camouflage nets, which can cover about 200 pick-up trucks, were woven from materials purchased at the expense of the volunteer organisation and sent to the front line.

Over the year, Zaporizhstal's volunteers personally went to the grey zone more than 300 times to deliver more than 515 tonnes of humanitarian aid to civilians and defenders.

Over 365 days in 2023, volunteers assembled about a hundred tactical first aid kits worth about UAH 300,000 and delivered them to the military who needed them most.

During the past year, the plant's volunteers held charity events and fundraisers for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to provide crucial assistance to Ukrainian heroes.

In addition, outside of volunteering, Zaporizhstal's youth organisation has held 13 social events this year.

"We will continue to do this as long as necessary. Because our task is to be a reliable support pillar for our defenders. The next year should be a victorious one for Ukraine, we believe in it, and together we are doing everything we can to bring this day closer. Together for Victory!" added Oleh DONETS, acting head of the plant's youth organisation.
