He was always there for his team – in daily work, during complex repairs, in the most difficult moments. This was the case on that tragic night, August 11, when enemy Russian troops attacked a peaceful industrial site.
Andriy Shvaika was born in Severodonetsk, Luhansk region. He began his professional career in metallurgy in Zaporizhzhia, where he worked at enterprises that provide repair and maintenance of metallurgical production. He devoted more than 18 years of his life to Zaporizhstal.
In recent years, Andriy worked as a foreman for the repair of equipment at the site for the repair of lifting and transport equipment of the Metallurgical Equipment Maintenance and Repair Shop No. 1. Together with his team, he carried out repairs at blast furnace production facilities. It was a difficult and responsible job, which he knew well.
His experience was also needed at other enterprises of Metinvest. During business trips, Andriy worked, in particular, at Kamet-Steel, where he joined the repairs of blast furnaces. There, he was also well known and respected by his colleagues.
"Andriy was very sociable, knew how to unite people, it was easy to work with him. He was responsible for any task and always brought the work to the end. Over the years, he gained extensive experience, knew the specifics of repairs well. There was a lot to learn from him. It is indescribably difficult for all of us to accept this loss. We have lost not only a professional, but also our good friend," says Andriy Sheiko, head of the section for the repair of lifting and transport equipment of the Metallurgical Equipment Maintenance and Repair Shop No. 1.
On August 11, Andriy's team repaired the lining of the sinter hopper at the blast furnace. During a massive missile attack on Zaporizhstal, Andriy and his colleagues did not have time to get to the shelter and died. This tragedy claimed the lives of eight employees and was a painful loss for the entire team.
Andriy was part of a large family of Zaporizhstal – a reliable colleague and leader who was known, appreciated and respected. He will be remembered by everyone who worked with him side by side.
This loss is most painful for Andriy's family. The wife lost her husband, and two sons were left without a father.
