Zaporizhstal's sinter shop is working full-steam to automate the dosing of its charge feeds, thus minimising the fluctuations in the chemical composition of the plant's sinter production.
The upgrade of the lime and fuel feeders began before the full-scale invasion, but the war disrupted plans and schedules, forcing the project to be put on hold. Work resumed this summer.
The project involves replacement of old fuel and lime feeders and development of modern software that will allow to fully visualise the material dosing process.
This state-of-the-art equipment will help reduce coke consumption in the blast furnace production process and increase cast iron output.
FACTS AND FIGURES
Zaporizhstal has allocated UAH 46.6 million towards the upgrade of the sinter shop's charge feeders.
"We aim to replace all 14 feeders by the end of this year. One has already been fully upgraded and is operational, with two more undergoing adjustments. All the work is being carried out while the production stays online, as we need to ensure a continuous supply of raw materials to the blast furnace department," said Anton KEREBKO, head of the sinter shop.
The overhaul of the sinter shop's charge feed section will reduce fluctuations in the chemical composition of the charge, improving the quality of the final product. This will help reduce coke consumption in the blast furnace shop. Annually, this could save about 2,000 tonnes of this expensive raw material, equivalent to UAH 35 million.
